GOP, Dems rally behind Social Security benefit ban for Nazis
Washington (CNN) -- Almost 70 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, the concentration camp set up by the Germans to exterminate Jewish prisoners, there are still a handful of Nazis who continue to receive U.S. Social Security benefits.

The House unanimously passed a bill -- dubbed the "No Social Security for Nazis Act" -- on Tuesday that would cut off those benefits.

Texas Republican Rep. Sam Johnson, a decorated Air Force veteran who was a prisoner of war for seven years during the Vietnam War, was the lead sponsor of the legislation.

"While the number of Nazis receiving Social Security is few, allowing payments to continue is an insult to those who suffered at the hands of the Nazis," Johnson said.

Congress has considered various proposals designed to deny any benefits from Nazis. This latest bill was introduced last month after a recent Associated Press investigation reported that dozens of Nazis who were deported from the United States were still collecting millions of dollars in retirement benefits. Even though these people were stripped of their U.S. citizenship and forced to leave the country a loophole in the law allowed them to continue receiving Social Security checks.

Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York, who has been a key proponent in changing the law, told CNN that she has asked both the Justice Department and Social Security Administration to find out how much money was paid out and how many were still receiving any social security funds. She estimated there were roughly four individuals who were still eligible for the payments.

"They are dying out, but anybody who gets it is too much. They came to this country under false pretenses," Maloney told CNN.

How many Nazis are left anyway? A handful that did pay into the system. Kind of an empty victory considering that republicans can keep installing convicted felons like rick scott into public office.

On the surface, and at first, I applauded this. But upon further consideration, doesn't it set a worrying precedent, that criminals or those with unpopular positions/beliefs can be arbitraily denied rights afforded to others and without due process?

Is one of these social security nazis any worse than bush/cheney and co. being responsible for lying us into war and causing hundreds of thousands of death and trlllions of dollars?

There are so few living Nazis who were deported from the US that it hardly seems worthwhile to bother unless it's just another grandstand play. Why not expand the concept and deny Social Security benefits to every criminal who was ever deported from the US?

the rise of Nazism in Germany...now is the time the world needs to put their foot down against any remnants of the former Nazi regime. This is a giant step...hopefully it will open the eyes of the world as to how dangerous the German hate gene is to the security and safety of every person in the world.

Now is the time almost eighty freaking years after the defeat of Nazism to do what? To put our foot down? This is pure bull shit. Hell, why not deny social security benefits who every criminal who was deported from the U.S.?

Yes you nazi bastard. The rise of nazism in Germany is an embarassment to the victors of the war.

First, there are thousands who consider themselves to be nazis. You mean OLD nazis.

OTOH, you do have a point about where we draw the line.

If someone works and earns it, then maybe they should be able to collect it.

Couldn't we just put a bounty on all nazis? Shoot them all, young and old, on sight. No, I'm not serious but I don't believe they improve the world by being in it.

What about present nazis?
KKK?
White supremacists?
Aryan nutters?

All hate is derived from Germany and people of German ancestry. Destroy Germany and it is a step towards creating peace in the word. It is sort of like chopping off the head of the serpent.

I would be satisfied if they stripped the pensions of legislators who were imprisoned due to malfeasance in office...but, I guess that is asking too much.

Yeah, our taxes are supporting a lot of crooks.

Interestingly, the one getting the most is GeeDumya his self.

Report: George W. Bush has most expenses among former presidents for 2012

By Josh Lederman March 25, 2013

Being the leader of the free world is an expensive proposition. And the costs don’t stop once you leave the White House.

The government spent nearly $3.7 million on former presidents in 2012, according to an analysis released by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. That covers a pension, compensation and benefits for office staffers, and other costs.

The costliest former president? George W. Bush, who clocked in last year at just more than $1.3 million.

How about returning to the common sense approach of paying SS to the working American citizens who paid into it. When did SS become a gift from the welcome wagon?

You almost gotta laugh. Islamofascism is running rampant in Europe and dumb assed libs think "the rise of Nazism in Germany " is a threat. The bottom line is there are potentially less than a handful of retired former US nazis who receive the social security benefits that they were forced to pay into when they lived in the US. The issue is a joke unless the intent is to deny Social Security benefits to every criminal who was deported from the US and lives in a foreign country.
