Newsweek: "Obama First Gay President"

Here is what the original poster doesn't understand about job growth.

Adding jobs requires many things, one of which is consumers with money ("demand").

There is no demand.

Why is there no demand?

1) In 1980 capital seized Washington and created policies for cheaper labor (to realize higher returns on investment). This resulted in shipping high wage jobs to dictator-run, freedom-hating parts of the 3rd world and China. This ended the vigorous wage based consumption or wage-based-demand seen in the postwar years (a time when the US had the most robust domestic economy in history).

2) What happened when wage-based consumption ended? Three things. Women entered the workforce, the father often got a second job, and - starting in 1980 - the USA ramped up credit or debt financed consumption. Higher rates of borrowing replaced diminishing wages and benefits. The expansion of credit allowed the American family to levitate on debt for close to 40 years.

Problem is: you can only borrow so long until there is a meltdown, which there was. [Americans were so maxed out on traditional credit vehicles that they tapped the last thing they had left with any value - their homes. Now there is nothing left to draw credit from, and there are not enough solvent costumers to loan money to]

AND SO... since consumers lack both the wages and borrowing capacity to sustain consumption, and since the capitalist THEREFORE has no incentive to innovate and add jobs in the real economy, the capitalist must increasingly invest in speculative garbage (like bubbles) to get returns. Indeed, Wall Street created a whole class of investment vehicles that rewarded short term pump and dump - on margin. They poured fake money into fake products that were so detached from real value that they had to blow up. This is what capital does when there is no demand and no reason to invest in the real economy - it invents other ways to get returns. Look where the Bush tax cuts went. They didn't go into lasting jobs, they went into the real estate bubble ("bubble jobs"), and hedge funds, and futures, and derivatives - all of which blew up when the bubble burst. Indeed, 30 years of neoliberal polices (across the globe) resulted in a massive pool of money ("surplus capital") which poured NOT INTO solid jobs but into the Wall Street casino > Credit Default Swaps and CDOs and oil futures, etc.

Neoliberalism - which lowers taxes, destroys regulations, and liberalizes trade so investment capital can flow from American jobs to 3rd world, freedom-hating nations - lowered the wages, benefits, and entitlements that sustained middle class consumption for 40 years. Lacking consumers, there was nowhere else to go for high returns but the Wall Street Casino, where a bubble was created which destroyed the global economy . . . and destroyed a generation of consumers, thus suppressing demand even more.

This is why wealth inequality is dangerous. It leads to two terrible problems:

1) The non-wealthy - lacking sufficient wages and benefits - increasingly rely on credit to keep pace.

2) The wealthy - lacking consumers - increasingly rely on manufactured bubbles and financial ponzi schemes to keep their money growing.

This combination of factors - if they get extreme enough - is more destructive than the Soviets or 15 guys with box cutters or some petty dictator in Iraq. Reagan - by changing the conversation from energy dependence and corporate malfeasance to drugs, sin, and evil empires - dug our grave. We lost sight of the real danger to our nation, which is financial weapons of mass destruction.

The game is over.

We swallowed poison in 1980.

We gave massive tax cuts to the job creators . . . and they then shipped jobs overseas and poured the resulting profits into Washington so they could remove regulations ... which allowed them to create a Wall Street casino (with unregulated derivatives markets) which blew up and destroyed the American economy long term. Yet, somehow, we call these people job creators.

We got punk'd in 1980.

Imaging if Newsweek had come out and did a cover story, oh, say on JFK about his being a faggot.

He would have been pissed.

Obama takes it as a complement.

Really?

Newsweek magazine, no stranger to controversial covers, has unveiled the front of their next issue: It’s President Barack Obama with a rainbow-striped halo and the headline, “The First Gay President.”

Unbelivable...His grand pronouncement this past week in a long series of non issues to distract, deflect off his poor economic record changed NO LAWS...didn't do anything but distract...(obfuscate)...as he jetted off aboard AF one to be the guest at George Clooney's home at a $40,000 a plate fundraiser...

Out of touch...there are larger issues with the people...this one isn't one of them remotely at the head of any sensible out of work American's list...

Newsweek Cover Declares Obama ‘The First Gay President’

Well that explains why this item has shown up for sale on the DNC and BarackObama.com websites
