Synopsis
The film portrays the race against time by Alan Turing and his team of code-breakers at Britain's top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. The motley group of scholars, mathematicians, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers had a powerful ally in Prime Minister Winston Churchill who authorized the provision of any resource they required. The film spans the key periods of Turing's life: his unhappy teenage years at boarding school; the triumph of his secret wartime work on the revolutionary electro-mechanical bombe that was capable of breaking 3,000 Enigma-generated naval codes a day; and the tragedy of his post-war decline followinghis conviction for gross indecency, a criminal offence stemming from his admission of maintaining a homosexual relationship.

During the winter of 1952, British authorities entered the home of mathematician, cryptanalyst and war hero Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) to investigate a reported burglary. They instead ended up arresting Turing himself on charges of 'gross indecency', an accusation that would lead to his devastating conviction for the criminal offense of homosexuality - little did officials know, they were actually incriminating the pioneer of modern-day computing.

When you think about the damage done by conservatives. You don't see brilliant minds coming out of conservatism. You see the Taliban. You see Pat Robertson. You see the deep south. This guy was right up there with Einstein. When you look at the average age of Nobel Prize Winners in math and science and how old they are and then along comes this young man driven to his death by conservatives while still young. How they tortured him. And this happened after World War II. Not in the 16th century. What the world lost will of course never be known.

How many other brilliant lives have we lost driven by conservative hate? And the worst part is they aren't through.

He gets arrested for being gay 62 years ago this is somehow relevant, but the fact that JFK voted against civil rights legislation 5 years later isn't. Get lost, dweeb.

Hypocritical they arrested Turing but not General Montgomery (Patton's UK counterpart.) Allegations of not just homosexuality, but pedophilia as well hang over Monty's legacy.

One of the saddest events that came out of that era. Most people aren't even aware of who Turing was, and how he was persecuted after playing a big part in bringing down the enemy. A movie about him could be a major attitude changer.

rdean those who arrested Turing might have been leftists. Some leftists in that era opposed homosexuality more than any Republican. Even in the 1960s Castro imprisoned homosexuals without trial.

They were homophobes, not "conservatives". Get your adjectives correct.

Right, Conservatives don't hate homosexuality. Are you nuts? :cuckoo:

so a brilliant war hero, that had a tragic end, like many heros, is being used for leftist propaganda to gin up hate for people they don't like and want to control.

damn, I've heard that story somewhere before, just can't put my thumbs on it

I am Conservative in many areas and have no problems with gays or gay marriage.

Your statement is an indication of your own bigotry.....no one else's.

The people who killed (yes I believe he was murdered) were homophobes who used the threat of Turing's being compromised by the Soviets as an excuse to do their despicable deed. I have loads of friends who are conservative who have zero problem with homosexuality, I know that warps your brain but it's a fact.
