This is ten years old, but proves that the US government once again LIED the American people into another terrible war. Could the same apply to the USS Maine? We know LBJ lied about the Gulf of Tonkin. We know W lied about WMD. Anyone's guess what the ruling class will lie about next resulting in mass death, but riches for them.

New Clues In Lusitania's Sinking

When the Lusitania went down, it left a mystery behind: What was the cause of the second blast? After nearly a century of investigation, argument and intrigue, clues are starting to surface.

On May 7, 1915, the RMS Lusitania, jewel of the Cunard Line, was on a New York-to-Liverpool run when it was attacked by a German U-boat 12 miles off the coast of Ireland. At 2:10 p.m., a torpedo plowed into the ship and exploded. Fifteen seconds later, a massive second explosion rocked the ship again. Within a mere 18 minutes, the Lusitania plunged 300 feet to the bottom of the Celtic Sea. Of the 1,959 passengers and crew, 1,198 were lost, including 128 Americans. The tragedy sparked anti-German fervor that eventually drew the United States into World War I.

Minutes later, Andrews is seen on a TV monitor in the wheelhouse scooping something up in his gloved hand — a small cache of metal. His masked face is beaming in the astringent light.

In his hands lie pieces of history: seven gleaming rounds of .303 ammunition, probably made by Remington in America and intended for the British Army. Ammunition that for decades British and American officials said didn't exist. Yet all around Andrews are mountains of jumbled rifle cartridges that glint like pirate's treasure in the robot's light.

Gregg Bemis, the American venture capitalist who planned and paid for this expedition, says if they're lucky, the dive team could find as many as 4 million bullets.

The crew sends up a cheer — this is the first real breakthrough in a patient effort to solve one of the last lingering riddles behind the Lusitania's sinking.

governments ALWAYS lie about war, reasons for war, excuses for war; the US is likely the worst doing this.

You mentioned G. W. Bush & the invisible WMDs in Iraq but that was a result of 9/11, yet another LIE.

Yes, governments lie all the time about war: IKE knew this and the Republicans didn't listen to the Republican.

And IMO we are soon to be fed yet another LIE by yet another GOP administration for YET another great war.

Fasten your seat belts & grab your ballz 'cause this one gonna B a doozy

But it didn't lead to the US getting involved in the war (unbelievably, imo). Not for two more years, when a (probably) made up rumor that we were about to be invaded via Mexico was floated.

The cruise ship was transporting ammunition as well as people. Why is this so hard to grasp after 100 years? The issue is whether the Germans intentionally sent a cruise ship to the bottom or if they were aware that it was carrying ammunition. It's likely that the German sub commander had no idea of the cargo and was desperate for a kill.

It didn't sink from an excess of water inside the boat?

You missed the part where the asshat Wilson and his warmongering minions worked diligently to inflame Americans for war, using this incident. Knowing full well that the ship was loaded with war materiel. They used this incident to change public opinion. Knowingly lying to the American people. Just as Polk did, as Lincoln did, as McKinley did, as FDR did, as LBJ did, and as dipshit W did.

When will we ever learn? Politicians are criminals. Never trust them.

You have a point Gipper. Liberal democrat former college professor Woodie Wilson promised Americans that he would never send their sons to fight in a foreign war and then he or his wife sent the Doughboys to their deaths in the trenches after the Lusitania sinking. Was it a lucky break or an intended attack? It's alleged that FDR invited a Japanese attack to get us into the "real war" in Europe. LBJ couldn't get a real crisis so he faked one. The common denominator of course is the liberal media which has defended and covered up for every crooked democrat regime in the 20th and some of the 21st century.

A politician who will knowingly sacrifice his countrymen to gin up a war, is clearly a psychopath. Throughout history there are numerous examples of politicians/monarchs/dictators doing just that.

So, we must conclude that any politician is capable of committing heinous actions.

They did not lie, they misspoke.

Only Trump lies.

Interestingly, he is the only President that has not started a war in some time now.

Stop your lies! I thought you were a teacher? The Zimmerman Telegram was genuine. It was acknowledged by the German government!
Mexico remained neutral in the war. It was the best we could hope for. Mexico has always been the enemy of the US but never strong enough to defeat us outright.
By the way the Mexican government created a military commission to study the chances of seizing the United States Southwest with German help in response to the German offer in the Zimmerman Telegram.. But the commission of generals reported back that the Anglos would be too hard to pacify...thanks to the Second Amendment.

The Zimmermann Telegram

However Mexico did help the US in World War II. They sent a total of 300 soldiers and suffered the stunning loss of five men in the war. Couldn't have done it without them.

Well it is convenient that you left out LBJ making up an attack off the coast of Vietnam to justify that war.

Funny that.

And what of FDR? Here the Japanese code was broken well before Pearl Harbor but we had no idea what they were up to?

No matter, we broke their code just fine a few months later at Midway to have a successful and much needed victory.
