MUNICH – After three decades of fighting in court, suspected Nazi guard John Demjanjuk was deported from the United States to Germany on Tuesday to face allegations of being an accessory to the murder of 29,000 Jews and others at the Sobibor death camp.

If the retired Ohio autoworker is found fit to stand trial, it could bring an end to a legal saga that began in 1977 and involved courts and government officials from at least five countries on three continents.

Demjanjuk's case is an example of how difficult it has become to bring alleged Nazi war criminals to trial more than six decades since the end of World War II.

Demjanjuk arrived at Munich's airport from Cleveland on Tuesday morning aboard a private jet that taxied directly into a hangar, accompanied by police vehicles and an ambulance.

From there he was transported by ambulance, under police escort, to a special medical unit of the Stadelheim prison. The 89-year-old Demjanjuk, who is allegedly in poor health, will be examined by a doctor at the prison and formally arrested.

They're determined to try this guy even if he's on life support.:cuckoo:

32 years they tried to get him.

Nature will cheat them out of their revenge, it's too late, he lived his life.

I just think at some point you have to quit spending time, effort and money looking for vengeance for something that happened 65 years or more ago.

I just don't see the return being worth the investment. All the money spent to get this guy there and put him on trial. Is there a pool on whether or not he just keels over on the stand?

I hope he is jailed and dies in prison!

The fact that a scumbag gets sick before facing justice is not a surprise!

The long arm of the law caught up with him.
You have a point in how is this actually going to make the world a safer place. But I'm glad he's being deported. It's hard to feel compassion for a Nazi tool.

yeah... pity.

Well except for the whole bit where another Guard from those camps that ADMITTED he was a guard sad he NEVER knew of this guy at all. Or the Fact he was a PRISONER not a guard at the camp. Ya they got the right guy alright.

not vengeance...justice.

When criminals know then go free because of age or time we are doomed. hang the fucker after he gets a fair trial or clear him. either way he needs to stand trial for his horrific (alleged) crimes.

The court judgment also addressed evidence against Demjanjuk that was not included in his indictment. The judges agreed that Demjanjuk most likely served as a Nazi Wachmann (guard) in the Trawniki unit[16] and had been posted at Sobibor and two other camps. Evidence to assist this claim included a certificate from Trawniki bearing Demjanjuk's picture and his exact personal information

I said nothing about feeling compassion for him. It's already been noted elsewhere that I am seriously lacking in any of that.

The fact is, if guilty, this dude has already cheated the gallows. He's dying. Do you really think he gives a crap anymore? He lived a full life free and clear. Now he's costing a LOT of US and German taxpayers money for a race to see if they can hang him before he dies on his own.

It's not justice at this stage of the game. It's vengeance. He's already cheated the gallows. I imagine if he could still move his face he'd be laughing in a few right now.

I do think he gives a crap. Just because he's in his nineties and supposedly sick, doesn't mean he wouldn't want to be with his loved ones till the end.

I don't think it's vengeance. This has become a well publicized case. I think it's intended to send a message to the world that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated.
