Name change suggested for Christmas decoration due to slave owner origin

Your cat lives with you, it must be horrified, if you are half as crazy as you come off on this board.

How is taking down a statue of a mass murderer destroying history?

The problem is that Columbus' story is a lie. He didn't prove the world was round (everyone already knew it was), he didn't "discover" America (the people living there already knew it was there). What he did do was inflict massive genocide on the new lands he encountered. He doesn't deserve a statue.
Why do you sicko Leftest turds always do everything half ass?

You like to destroy history so much why not go for the Big Enchilada?

This country was created as a slave nation. Slavery of the Negroes was legal 80 years before the Civil War, during the Civil War and for almost a year afterwards. Then the US was an apartheid nation for 100 years afterwards. The US flag is the flag of slavery, doncha know?

Why not destroy all of American History up until the time Queer Barry was elected President? Go for all of it!

Round up all White people and put them in concentration camps awaiting the gas chambers because their ancestors created the racist nation. Name every street and school in the country after Martin Luther Negro, Rosa Parks and Queer Barry. Confiscate all White money, land and wealth and give it to the goddamn Negroes? Only allow statues of Negroes and maybe a few Injins, Queers or Muslims?

I don't understand that since you little mentally disturbed assholes are so obsessed with your stupid woke filth that you don't go for everything. Why half ass do it?

Oh, I know....The moment I saw that androgynous, WTF is that humanoid doing a report, I never looked at that mess again. :uhoh3:
lol.
I can picture the Harry Potter wannabe now.

Butt ugly in any gender.

No, it isn't. But no reason to honor him by calling the plant that.

No reason to not go back to the old names.

"Mexican flame flower" or "painted leaf".[8]

I don't think the plant cares what it is called.

We have a whole lot of traditions for Christmas that make no sense, most of them hijacked from Pagan festivals.
It's rediculous. Fearing a phonetic utterance is the ultimate mental and emotional weakness. History is what it is and cannot be retroactively changed by such morbid attempts to erase it which will probably fail in any case since it is utterly unnecessary. Things like a plant's name take on a life and meaning all of their own completely detached from their Origins unless chronic undifferentiated schizophrenia is the deciding factor in the issue. The same could be said for CHRISTMAS or MEMORIAL DAY....since both holidays represent a connection to slavery in their own right.

Reminds me of the name change of Lake Calhoun in south Mpls. It is now Bde Maka Ska. Until the recent outrage of Vice President Calhoun supporting slavery, not a single person even knew who he was or even cared where the name came from. Much like they don't give a thought to the many other lakes with French and Indigenous names.
The local media Fox 9 now does a story literally every day on the shore of the lake to pound the name for the sake of their fake virtue, despite the fact there are 15,000 other lakes in the state.

Oh. The DNR decided also to call the Asian Carp the Invasive Carp, because some white fool decided the term Asian was racist, despite the fact the damn fish came from Asia.

I wonder when the Black Bear gets renamed.
.

They can call it anything they want.

In my home, it will always be a poinsettia.

Thank you and God Bless you for that perfect truth.

POINSETTIA, THE POPULAR HOLIDAY PLANT NAMED AFTER A SLAVEHOLDER, MAY BE UNDERGOING A NAME CHANGE

Poinsettia, the bright red flower that is usually associated with the holiday season, is causing controversy as people learn about the origin of its name.

According to the Associated Press, the plant is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, a slaveholder from the 1800s who was also part of an army that removed Native Americans from their land.

Historian Lindsay Schakenbach Regele, author of Flowers, Guns and Money, wrote about how Poinsett terrorized Native Americans.

“Because Poinsett belonged to learned societies, contributed to botanists’ collections, and purchased art from Europe, he could more readily justify the expulsion of Natives from their homes,” Regele wrote.

The mental illness intensifies.

Really expected this to be a parody article.....Nope.....Truth is sadder than fiction anymore.

The people who make a issue out of this stuff must be unimaginably sad and lonely.

What's next, talk of banning Cotton? ;)
"Show me the man and I will find you the crime" mentality! :aargh:

Merry Christmas to all who still love and celebrate this wonderful day.

The Earl of Sandwich had a huge staff of slaves. Many types: black slaves, white bond slaves and every other kind available at that time.
Shall we now attack the word Sandwich and cease to call that tasty meal of sliced meat and cheese between two pieces of bread by some other descriptive?
Hell the word itself has evolved into both a verb and an adjective besides being a noun.

Except- we change the names of things all the time. I went to AIT in a place called "Fort Lee" in Virginia. Except Lee was a traitorous, slave-abusing bastard and didn't deserve a US Army Fort named after him. So now it's called "Fort Greg-Adams", and we are all better off for it.

Today in Germany, you won't find a single street named after a Nazi. This is a good thing.

So not naming a flower (that we only think about during one time of the year) after a man who had planned and executed a genocide of Native Americans is probably a good thing

Did he plan and carry out a genocidal policy? It's not the mere fact of owning slaves that's the issue here, it's the fact that he was Secretary of War when Andrew Jackson dispossessed Native Americans of their land in Georgia and forced them to march west on the "Trail of Tears" resulting in the deaths of 16,000 of them.

Yes, wanting to rename a flower is the same as white genocide!

This is white grievance politics at it's worst, people.

That office is not for humanitarians....that's for sure.

No.... It's simple pragmatism that excludes the absurd.
you seem awfully hung up on a flower, honestly.

We change names of things all the time.

Many common names for species of plants, animals and insects, including the gypsy moth and Scott's oriole, have been dubbed 'racist' by scientists who want a change.

In July the Entomological Society of America (ESA) removed the term 'gypsy' from the names of a moth and ant due to the fact it is seen as a slur for Romani people.

Some of the names given to species have already been changed, like the jewfish, renamed to the Goliath grouper in 2001 after a petition citing its offensiveness.

Good luck with that.

The point of common names for life forms is that these are names by which common people know these forms of life; they have always existed, and will always exist, independently of any formal system of taxonomy.

Nobody other than the most worthless and irrelevant of pussified losers is going to stop using a common name simply because some group of pussies decided that that name is “offensive”.

Actually, common names change all the time, which is why we don't have a "Jewfish" or a "Gypsy Moth" anymore.

Common names are also regional, which is why scientists use the binomial Latin names under the system developed by Lineaus.

Oh, Bob, here's the better question, why are you so wedded to a plant honoring a genocidal maniac?
