So, you don't want to take Japan's word for it.

They've trade surpluses and as a result, Japan has invested 4 times more abroad than the world has invested in Japan during 1998-2010.
(around 830 Billion $ which Japanese companies invested abroad in this period).

They can sustain high-technology manufacturing in Japan and low-technology manufacturing they move abroad, preferentially to China.

Look at above graphic, the difference in development of trade balance/imbalance of Japan and USA is "exceptional".
We shouldn't talk about "lost decades" of Japan, but of a "lost generation" in USA.
 
Turkey aside, what muslim country comes even close to Japan for having a record of innovation and creating quality products with global demand?
