Probably because current-day Palestinian activists would love for the camp to be re-opened and Jews to be gassed to death more.

And American leftists/democrats think we need to not condemn these people and understand them more, and support their cause... because somehow Israel = white/oppressor, and Palestinian activists = brown/victim.
