I doubt Russia could afford what Alaska would be worth today. And I rather think Canada likes having a big chunk of the USA between them and Russia. So would we risk blood and treasure to defend Alaska? I think we would risk blood and treasure to defend the 733,000+ U.S. citizens who live there. Well, maybe 'we' wouldn't include Biden who has made it crystal clear he doesn't give a damn about U.S. citizens. So if Russia is going to make their move they better make it in this year sometime.

A side deal with Iran also was to secure the release of seven Americans being held hostage by Hezbollah in Lebanon. It was potentially the most illegal thing done by the Reagan Administration and became ugly when they threw Oliver North under the bus to protect their own behinds. But ultimately, North was given complete immunity to explain it all to Congress and $48 million later, Special Counsel Walsh charged with finding something illegal on Reagan and George H.W. Bush reported that there were some illegalities, but illegalities that carried no penalty. And the books were closed on that.
