Let's set the stage. Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar named Desire. The players: modern Alt-Right Trump supporters in the role of Stanley Kulwalski. Democrats in the role of Blanche DuBois and the American voter as Stella DuBois-Kulwalski.
Stanley, the blue collar, low culture brute sees the world starkly. His accomplishments are born of determination, marginal information and brute force. Blanche, the tainted belle is educated but corrupted. Delusional yet determined. Sinful with a veneer of lovable harlot.
And Stella who loves Stanley, but fears him. Fears his rage, his irascible nature and his unpredictability. Stanley woos Stella while he destroys Blanche. And that confuses Stella.
And here we are. America 2017. Trump and his allies swagger through the landscape insulting manners and civil comportment. Cheering for politicians for assaulting reporters. Creating their own 'reality' to fit their beliefs.
And Democrats clutching at pearls, reaching for smelling salts and relying on the kindness of strangers, as if in this new world kindness is a commodity worthy of respect.
Will we see Trump clad in a wife beater crying out for the American voter to come back and forgive him of his sins? Will we see the Democrats hauled away blubbering about days gone by and triumphs not to be repeated? Will we see the American voter come to her senses and leave the brutish Trump, or drape herself over his shoulders only to be seduced by his boorishness?
