Mitch McConnell is branding himself as an oath violator by conspiring with defendant Donald Trump to corrupt the impeachment trial.

If this was a criminal trial and Mitch McConnell the prosecutor, he would be arrested and indicted for conspiracy and corruption.

The impeachment trial will be very interesting to witness how each of the GOP senators upholds their personal compliance with the oath they have to swear as jurors.

The other interesting aspect will be the influence of Chief Justice John Roberts on the impeachment process and rules.

This Is The Moment The House Judiciary Committee Approves Two Articles Of Impeachment Against President Trump

After Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently confirmed that he will conduct President Donald Trump's Senate impeachment trial in full accordance with the White House's wishes, a government professor said the senator will be acting "in literal violation of the oath" he will be required to take at the start of the trial.
In recent days, McConnell indicated that he has held discussions with the White House to formulate an impeachment game plan to achieve a favorable outcome for Trump. "Everything I do during this, I'm coordinating with the White House counsel," the senator told Fox News host Sean Hannity late last week. "There will be no difference between the president's position and our position as to how to handle this." The Republican also revealed that he will be working in "total coordination with the White House counsel's office and the people representing the president in the well of the Senate."
McConnell's remarks have drawn fierce criticism from Democrats who have condemned him for failing to act impartially and openly gaming the process to ensure Trump's acquittal. In a recent op-ed written for The Bulwark, Jeffrey K. Tulis, a professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas, slammed McConnell's actions as "anti-Constitutional" and asserted that the senator will be "in literal violation" of the impeachment oath he will have to take before the trial begins.
Tulis explained that the impeachment trial in the Senate is so serious that senators will be required to make a new oath of office. He noted that Article I, section 3, clause 6 of the Constitution sets out that senators sitting on a trial of impeachment "shall be on Oath or Affirmation."
Although all senators must swear an oath to protect the Constitution when elected to Congress, the oath for an impeachment trial is different. "It is a juror's oath and a judge's oath—not a legislator's oath," Tulis wrote.
According to Rule XXV of the Senate Rules in Impeachment Trials, all senators must make the following oath: "I solemnly swear [or affirm, as the case may be] that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of [the person being impeached], now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: So help me God."
Commenting on the clause, Tulis said "the Constitution asks them to remember that they are not sitting as senators, but now as judges and jurors."
"So much so that for this brief period the senators are all equal," the professor added. "For the duration of the trial the Senate is a literally new institution with new rules, new norms, and new responsibilities."

Its a bitch when the GOP is in control of the Senate after the democrats had their way breaking House Rules being the "unfair" majority isn't it?
Stop whining and buckle up buttercup, you are NOT going to like what happens to your "Articles" in the Senate.

Cryin Chuck will be very upset when he doesn't get his way.....

What did the OP expect? The Senate is run by the Republicans. A non-conviction was never in doubt.

Real Republicans who value the Constitution would run this like the trial it was supposed to be. You have prosecutors and defenders. The Senators are supposed to evaluate the evidence, call witnesses, and decide based on this.

If Republicans are so convinced Trump is innocent, they should prove it in court. So far, the evidence heard was in the House. 90% said Trump is guilty. If the Republicans provide no new testimony or evidence, then they should vote to convict.

After all jurors are supposed to decide based on the evidence presented.

But McConnell wants Republicans to vote to acquit based on the desire to protect a Republican President. This is clearly not what the Constitution says.

When they take that oath & then violate it, they become just like Bill Clinton, lying under oath.

Maybe some Republican Senators do not want that on their conscience?

Would you put your reputation as a US senator on the line to protect a piece of shit like Trump?

Why should Republicans treat this bogus impeachment with any respect?

Like quite a few Democrats in the Senate have been saying they will vote for impeachment for months, without ever seeing the fabricated "evidence"???

Who? What Democrat Senators do not want to see more evidence?

Then have a full trial...

Since the Democrats aren't in charge, it would be interesting to see who's subpoenaed for it!!!

I like that you reference the Constitution. Here are a few things to consider:
1. Trump does NOT have to "prove his innocence", the democrats have to prove he's guilty of an impeachable offense.
2. The "evidence" heard in the House was "hearsay" and that is NOT allowed in the Senate.
3. The "Articles" of impeachment are NOT impeachable, and Alan Dershowitz said that when the USSC took the case of Trump vs the House subpoena for tax records, that voids impeachment Article-2, since the president DOES have the right to appeal to the courts, and the House's interpretation of "impeachment authority" as Turley said is an "abuse of power"

Supreme Court ruling pulls rug out from under article of impeachment
4. The Republicans are protecting the Constitution, the democrats are abusing it.

Guess what sonny? Oaths mean nothing in DC. They are all liars and crooks.

As if either side doesn't run on straight partisanship.

Save us the histrionics, FFS.

I'm shocked that some of the pubs are openly admitting it, but if that dose of reality hurts your eyes so much you have not been paying attention to much. Ever.

Our Constitution can handle it. It is a Reason the Office of the President of the Senate is voided in favor of the Office of the Presiding Chief Justice over the Senate and their Trial.
