This tragedy happened 1 neighborhood over from me. A cop hating whackjob (who lawfully had a concealed carry permit btw) used a military style AK47 to kill 1 cop, seriously wound another, and graze a 3rd.

I saw like 100 cops respond, and he was shooting out the house at them. The officers were pinned down. The two local jurisdictions used 2 SWAT armored cars (An MRAP and a Bearcat) to roll up and evacuate the officers, AND evacuate citizens in neighboring aparments as they dealt with this LUNATIC firing his AK47. The 2 surviving officers and neighbors were safely evacuated in the armored vehicle, with NO CHANCE that this dirtbags AK47 could penetrate that armor.

And this is in Charleston, SC........a city named "Most Friendly in US" and "#1 Tourist City in North America".

Just for the folks who think police depts DONT need big guns and armor. You NEVER know when, or WHERE, cops will need some heavy equipment.

Of course....media wont report the use of the MRAP in this tragedy.

They're releasing now that douchebag had a history of being violent, possibly 50 arrests, bar fights.........yet still was able to get an AK47, and a valid concealed weapons permit. Im pro-gun rights. But this man lawfully owned those guns, but was FAR from being a "law abiding gun owner"

And when you include ISIS and Al Qaida cells working near or IN America......scary.

That's the ugly side of law enforcement. You never know when or where....but every year, several times a year, incidents occur that need "militarized" response. But we demonize PD's for being proactive and ready for THAT moment....because God forbid their city becomes the next "when or where" it happens.
