Meet the Chicago woman who rented hotel rooms for homeless people during polar vortex

One of these individuals may have been so moved by the cold and deprivation that they would vow never to go through that again. Maybe that person would do something and better themselves. They were robbed of that lesson and this woman did it.

No it is not a good deed
This was LIFE-THREATENING cold. You're rationalizing your contempt for these people to justify your own inaction.

In the uk the local authorities have to find shelter for people if the temp hits zero for 3 days running.
Its not amazing and in fact we have a lot of work to do.
But once again it shows the superiority of socialism.

No. It shows that you idiots continue to allow your Government to steal money from you via taxes to support individuals who can only be classified as sub-human wastes of flesh and oxygen.

I am glad to give it and think we should be doing more. Your sick values place you outside the conversation.

Many of these people are vets who came back here and are damaged from the ravages of a war that cowards like you would never go to. They can't get help from the VA and because of their situation, and many don't know how to start to apply for help. My guy is on VA disability and works tirelessly to help many of these poor souls and has gotten many of them the help they need. Fortunately for him, all of his medical is covered by the VA. There's a clinic here and a VA hospital about an hour away. I guess you would consider it a handout though, wouldn't you? Never mind that he was in the Gulf War and his ship was docked in Saudi Arabia down wind when the US released canisters of sarin gas over the ocean and it drifted 300 miles down to his ship and got into the air vents, the water supply and the food supply. What he has is an automatic presumptive called Gulf War Syndrome, but it's been renamed to something else now. Anyhow, he's on 90% VA disability for it and also gets SS disability because of it. But, he served in the Navy for 7 years and also was made to paint the inside bottom of the ship with toxic paint and even with protective gear, could only paint for 15 minutes before coming up for clean air. He never complains though and does so many things around the house for me. He has a degree in electrical engineering he got after leaving the Navy and can fix just about anything. Unlike you and your poor wife, we're a team and work together and help each other out. And he would never expect me to "obey" him.
And, even though I'm in NC, it got really cold for here last week and some people got coats from the Goodwill and hung them from trees downtown for the homeless. We try to take care of our less fortunate ones and thankfully, as far as I know, none are as heartless as you are.

My contempt is reserved for the do gooders who preen in self righteousness.

This is amazing. I know a bunch of people who don't have the wherewithal to organize a trip to an ice cream parlor.

Local businesswoman Candice Payne knew the frigid temperatures were deadly, so she took action.

Candice Payne, a Chicago real estate broker, is being hailed a hero after helping more than 70 homeless people get out of the blistering cold in Chicago's South Side and into a nearby hotel.

After thinking about the homeless population outside while the city experiences record sub-zero temperatures, she picked up the tab for the rooms, getting help from her friends who shuttled them, Payne said.

"No one wanted them, but one hotel, the Amber Inn, was nice enough to allow me to buy the rooms," Payne today TODAY. With the help of strangers who saw her post on social media, she was able to rent almost 60 rooms for a total of five nights.

I understand that Chicago asked its churches to open up for the homeless during this....most didn't.
This was an emergency situation, I don't understand why they couldn't make a exception on a temporary basis.
At a guess, they do not want the hassles and liability of bums fighting, shooting up, and generally raising hell.

If you really believe that, I’ve got a very nice bridge in London to sell you... cheap.

Probably not. I take pride in being the most heartless entity in any room I’m in.
What has made you such a heartless bastard, or have you always been this way?
