Mecca Mall!

Make what case? I am an athetist. My knowledge of most religions doesn't go beyond some cursory reading. And basically..I don't really care all that much.

Time and time again..I see posters proclaiming that some religions take their religious text much to literally. Well. Here is a step in the other direction.

So it's telling that the same actors are basically "at" it again...and instead of praising this move..they turn to make fun of the religion.

Typical.
If you don't know the precepts of the religion, how do you know people are making fun of it? You do nothing but compound your failure.

Mohammed would not approve of Western commercialism. It doesn't take an Islamic scholar to figure that one out, does it?

So, in summary, your gotcha failed. For what it's worth, I agree with you -- the mall is a good thing, and might have a civilizing influence on a backward culture. If you'd let that be your point, I expect you wouldn't have had much disagreement. However, in your haste to condemn "the usual suspects" for something you, by your own admission, aren't qualified to recognize, you merely make yourself look stupid. Good job. :clap2:

Something about prophets turning in their graves...

From what I understand..that particular prophet wasn't even buried..correct?
So the concept of "metaphor" escapes you?

Muhammad was for capitalism.

He headed up large caravans of camels across the desert and was was a trader of goods.

He was known to be a fair merchant and always turned a profit for his investors.

That was his first claim to fame in the Arabian Desert.
The concept of the mall is a symbol of Western decadence. Do you think Mohammed would approve of it?
The Souq (market) as been an arab tradition for thousands of years.

No the West didn't invent it.

They just air conditioned it and called it a Mall. :eusa_angel:

Souq

A souq (Arabic: سوق, also souk, esouk, suk, sooq, souq, or suq; technical transliteration sūq) is a commercial quarter in an Arab or Berber city. The term is often used to designate the market in any Arabized or Muslim city, but in modern times it appears in Western cities too, such as Jerusalem. It may also refer to the weekly market in some smaller towns where neutrality from tribal conflicts would be declared to permit the exchange of surplus goods. In Modern Standard Arabic the term refers to markets in both the physical sense and the abstract economic sense (e.g., an Arab would speak of the souq in the old city as well as the souq for oil, and would call the concept of the free market السوق الحرّ as-sūq al-ḥurr).

I've been in many souqs...possibly more than you.

I'll do as I please..tough guy.
Okay, as long as you realize your desperation to draw attention away from your failure is quite obvious.

Declaring victory..

Again.

Hookay..

:lol::lol::lol:

Kinda like the black knight in Monty Python..
I haven't declared victory. I've noted your failure to prove your contention that people were making fun of Islam.

You yourself said you were unqualified to make the statement. Can you really call that anything but failure?

Naw..

I'm also not arrogant enough to continually call people's opinions who are different then my own a "failure", continually, as you do.

I am not wholly un-acquainted with religion..but I am no expert either.

And being that we live in a free country..I can comment and criticize as I please.

Maybe a Famous Dave's BBQ.

We're not discussing your opinion. We're discussing what you presented as fact: That people are making fun of Islam in this thread. You have failed...repeatedly...to prove it.
I am not wholly un-acquainted with religion..but I am no expert either.
No kidding.
And being that we live in a free country..I can comment and criticize as I please.
You can indeed, and so can I. And I've used that freedom to correctly point out that you have not proven your contention.

Naw..

You're having a "neener neener" anal retentive moment.

That's okay..I understand..you being an emotional type.

"Neener neener"? That showed up in Post #4.

Not really.

I kinda use as a criteria for posting..would you say this sort of stuff in real life..then go from there.

Are you EVER going to get around to proving your contention that people are making fun of Islam in this thread?

Oh, wait...you already punted on that.

Perhaps next time you post a lame "Gotcha!" thread, you'll actually have cause to shout "Gotcha!" before you start doing your victory dance.

But I doubt it.

Well the rightie posters hopped right over the virtues of Capitalism and jumped right into denigration of a religion.

How American of them.:clap2:

Not.

Using humor to point out that Mohammed wouldn't be a fan, does not equate to "denigration of a religion".
which is the point he missed

and i guess he didn't know that non-Muslims are not allowed in Mecca

Big secret! shhhh!!!! Sorta looks like a dooms day clock to me, though all clocks look alike to me, I guess.

Didn't "punt" on it at all.

The Muslims are rather sensitive about their prophet and postulating that the prophet is "turning in his grave" would be insulting..considering that they think he wasn't even buried.

Generally..I try not to talk to people about religion in real life..or keep it light.

Worst. Spin. Ever.

And..

That didn't take long..

 As expected.
Perhaps you can explain how that was "going nuts".

What, Dubia will no longer be the capital of conspicuous, ostentatious, vulgar, capitalistic consumption? The sultan is gonna be PISSED!

Then again those saudis have had a good grasp of capitalism for a VERY long time. This is nothing new.

Daveman, again, declares victory..

Big surprise.

True.

But it's sort of surprising they are doing it in such a holy place.

No?
