Second, McDonald's has been hit with a lot of challenges like a lot of chain restaurants recently: (1) Less families eating out, (2) Demand across the country for a higher minimum wage, (3) Intense Competition, (4) Poor Public Image, (5) Poor public image of fast food in general, (6) Poor quality of food (7) Rising food prices trimming down margins and (8) A nation that is getting more health conscious.

Unless McDonald's wanted to completely revamp it's inventory (which would risk destroying it's base of loyal customers), then the quality will remain low.
