America used to be that way

After the Revolution they passed the Alien and Sedition Acts which made it illegal to speak out against the government. Had it not been for Jefferson to run for President to overturn them, the US would have been a far darker place to live.

What Jefferson could not repeal of the Alien and Sedition Acts was left for FDR to use to imprison Japanese Americans during WW2.
