Maine allows gun owners to carry concealed weapons without permit
Maine will allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons without a permit, a practice called "constitutional carry" by Second Amendment advocates, under a bill signed into law on Wednesday by Republican Governor Paul LePage.

The measure will make Maine the fifth state to pass a law legalizing the carrying of a handgun, either openly or concealed, without the requirement of a government permit.

Maine joins Alaska, Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas in voting to allow the practice, according to National Rifle Association spokesman Lars Dalseide. Vermont has never required a permit. Arkansas and Montana also allow more limited forms of constitutional carry.

More than a dozen other states have considered similar legislation.

There's nothing in the Constitution about a concealed carry.

I wonder if Maine is going to be the site of the next theater shooting.

There was yet another one just TODAY that happened in TN.

Does that mean that all those Maine residents who will be "carrying" concealed weapons are automatically enlisted in a militia?

Why would they need to be enlisted in a militia?

No. Because in a well regulated militia, we'd know exactly who had what kind of weapons so that if they were needed, those people could be called upon to defend the country.

Nobody knows who has what, or how many of each. When I was in the military, we knew exactly who had what, and how many of each, and if a weapon was issued to you, you were responsible for it until it was returned to the armory.

Doubt it. These criminals that do the theatre shootings do it because they know law abiding gun owners follow the law and rules of the theatre and don't bring their weapons to them. That's what makes the rule so damn stupid.

Why would they need to be enlisted in a militia?

Because the Second Amendment specifically talks about a "well regulated militia".

You should take another look at it.

it gives the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to the People, not the militia.

Direct citation:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Let others judge.

Good for you, saved me having to look it up.

the right of the PEOPLE.

Yanno..................ever since we formed up the Armed Forces and the National Guard, there really isn't any reason any more for a militia, because we no longer have to depend on the citizens to defend this country, because we have made a militia out of some of the citizens who wish to serve.

They didn't have that in the late 1700's and early 1800's.

the right of the PEOPLE.

Of course a MILITIA is made up of PEOPLE....ergo, does anyone carrying a gun (concealed or not) bear a responsibility to be part of a militia?

Not necessarily.

Only allowing people eligible to join a militia to keep and bear arms, would disenfranchise ALL females, males under the age of 16, and over the age of 45.
(Standard requirements in most colonial militias)

Giving the right to the PEOPLE gives the right to everyone.
