The soldiers, the Pentagon, love Mattis, respect Mattis. That tells me he is a good soldier. Old generals are all war-happy; that is their specialty and their perspective on conflicts. He will be a fine Secretary of Defense, leader of the Pentagon. China, at most, might try to push an /economic/ war, just like we've been in with every nation on the planet since we built ships... That is not a "mad dog" physical war as this thread seems to imply.

Right now, China is scrambling to find alternate sources of income because Trump's said he was going to drop a hammer on them. They're trying to grab power for their dollar - and I've been talking for a good while about what will happen if we allow China to take over the global currency. I'm not at all surprised they are using a time of extreme turmoil in the US to forward that agenda.

As for Russia, the only thing I've seen from Russia that is even remotely clear is that Putin does not want to go to war with the US. In fact, Putin was spouting happily that hopefully Trump would repair their relationship... This is not the kind of thing someone in a position of power says when they want war, it's the kind of thing someone who doesn't think they can afford a war says. Putin is, and has been, taking a weak position through his words.
