I would not be surprised be surprised to find that the top 1% earn 90%...or 95%....

The top 10% earning 50% of the national income is believable for the here and now...

Another truth to make you feel lucky is that if you live in America and have been here since 1990, you are among the top 25% of the planetary income bracket for that stretch of time on Earth. You're also in the top 1% for overall standards of living if you consider our entire short, miserable, beautiful, wonderful history.

America has been a tremendously successful experiment that generated immense wealth in spite of and because of our laws and community ideas as much as the organization and industry that exploited the abundant resources that were here for the taking.

Would the world be different if Europe had found America 1000 years earlier? How about 500 years later? What would the world be like if Columbus had met a hurricane?

Timing certainly facilitated technology - almost as much as the carbon fuels of the last 300 years - Will the 'Carbon Fuels Age' be a blip on human history like the 'Iron Age' was? It certainly has made life in the here and now different than anything our ancestors, even only 5 generations ago, would understand.
