More fun from Obama's new buddies. Enjoy, you're paying for these cretins America.

Libya's regular army and array of militias have been torturing loyalists of slain dictator Moamer Kadhafi, several of whom have been killed in custody, human rights groups charged on Thursday.

Amnesty International said that despite promises, Libya's new rulers have made "no progress to stop the use of torture", as Doctors Without Borders suspended its work in the third-largest city Misrata over similar claims.

Their accusations come after a top UN official raised concerns that militias composed of former rebels who helped topple Kadhafi were posing an increasing security risk as they repeatedly clashed with each other.

"Several detainees have died after being subjected to torture in Libya in recent weeks and months amid widespread torture and ill-treatment of suspected pro-Kadhafi fighters and loyalists," London-based Amnesty said in a statement.

It said its delegates met detainees held in Tripoli, in Misrata and in smaller towns such as Ghariyan who showed visible signs of torture inflicted in recent days and weeks.

"The torture is being carried out by officially recognised military and security entities, as well by a multitude of armed militias operating outside any legal framework," it said.

Donatella Rouvera, senior adviser at Amnesty, said in the statement that it was "horrifying to find that there has been no progress to stop the use of torture".

"We are not aware of any proper investigations into cases of torture," she said.

Detainees told Amnesty they had been beaten for hours with whips, cables, plastic hoses, metal chains, bars, wooden sticks and given electric shocks with live wires.

The watchdog said the detainees, both Libyans and foreigners from sub-Saharan Africa, were tortured soon after they were seized by militias in officially recognised detention centres in places like Misrata.

As long as the Libyans keep a grip on terrorism, get their country stable and at least pretend to be an ally to the US they can torture their citizens all they want, I don't care.

This SHOULD really piss the left off! But it won't....
They want to tell the US that we can't torture (if you want to call waterboarding torture) our enemies....but they won't think it being done in Lybia is any big thing.
Thanks Obama...because of you, the US is helping this to happen.

How is the US Helping this to happen? this is how people in that part of the world handle their business, they would still be torturing the fuck out of people if the US supported them or not, its a different culture over there and its not illegal for them to torture the shit out of people, why is this so hard for people to understand? they are not Americans, they don't follow American laws and civil rights doesn't exist there.

Hate to disappoint you, paulie, but Libya's current-History is of their own making....much unlike.....

"When I called on Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi in his Bedouin tent last year, he was at pains to explain how he and President Bush were on the same wavelength. In all his years as a bad boy in the eyes of the West, he said, Libya was simply doing what Bush did when he invaded Iraq. "Bush is saying that America is fighting for the triumph of freedom," Gaddafi said between sips of tea. "When we were supporting liberation movements in the world, we were arguing that it was for the victory of freedom. We both agree. We were fighting for the cause of freedom."

At the time, it may have sounded like the typical ramblings of the Libyan leader. But now, a year later, Gaddafi and Bush do apparently see eye to eye. On Monday, Gaddafi accomplished one of history's great diplomatic turnarounds when Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice announced that the U.S. was restoring full diplomatic relations with Libya and held up the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya as "a model" for others to follow. Rice attributed the ending of the U.S.'s long break in diplomatic relations to Gaddafi's historic decision in 2003 to dismantle weapons of mass destruction and renounce terrorism as well as Libya's "excellent cooperation in response to common global threats faced by the civilized world since September 11, 2001."

Leftists here will argue "it's cultural" and "natural"l and we should not be involved. Torture there is different from here.

And Obama's a champ for ordering assassinations. AND no Code Pink anywhere during the million dollar a day bombing of Libya.

Libs circle jerk over their leaders when they kill other individuals on the planet.

Libs riot when conservatives do.

Just a fact of lib fact of :lol:life.

Western Europe and the U.S. saw an opportunity to grab the Oil. And that's exactly what they did. Gaddafi's biggest blunder was giving up on his Nuclear ambitions. That really did seal his fate. He would still be alive and running Libya today if he hadn't. That's why Iran,North Korea, and pretty soon Syria, will go full steam ahead on developing their Nukes. Having the Nukes means survival. The West cannot attack when they know a nation has Nukes. Gaddafi just played things all wrong. And he sure did pay for it.

:) It was only about Oil. Why else did we bomb & kill so many over there? For 'Democracy?' To 'Protect the poor Civilians?' No, it was only about the Oil. So stop deluding yourself.

Yeah he totally fell for it, plus treating his people like total dog shit didn't help either. Libya has a very small population and they have oil, if Gaddafi would have taken care of his people like the Gulf Arab countries like Kuwait, UAE, Oman etc. his people would have never risen up against him.
