Today, President Obama stood before the American People and framed the debate on guns in America within the confines of the Constitution of the United States. What he did today is called leadership.

It is up to the Congress to pass laws and up to the president to, "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient...".

President Obama did that today, and for that I commend him.

Zander sometimes posts in drag, he goes by Stephanie or Willow Tree. One can tell by the short foolish sentences which lack substance and usually end with a personal attack or name calling.

As noted, the president’s proposals were made in good faith, in accordance with the Constitution – he is clearly sincere in his desire to address gun violence. He did show leadership and courage.

Few if any of today’s proposals will reach his desk to be signed into law, however.

The political will is simply not there, particularly with a significant number of Senate democrats facing re-election in 2014 – the last thing any of them want to do is had a republican opponent a gun ban gift.

The same thing happened to GWB in 2005 with SS reform – with both Houses of Congress controlled by republicans, his reform proposals were DOA.

Social Security and guns, the third rails of American politics.

Sadly I suspect you are correct. With the SC's 5-4 decision in CU v. FEC the NRA is well able to fund the campaigns for Senate for those incumbents and candidates which benefit the NRA's single issue mentality.

Or maybe outside the coasts, people don't want more useless forms of gun control that do nothing to address the use of weapons by criminals.

He's a Progressive Ideologue who won't act like an adult on the budget, but will use dead children to immediately press his anti-gun agenda

Fuck him
