Law abiding Wisconsinites afraid for their safety

Everyone knows unions have no history whatsoever of any kind of intimidation tactics and vandalism.... These accusations would be completely outside the relm of possibility for unions to perpetrate...

Right?

:cuckoo:

For the unions......... its their calling card stock in trade.

You aren't here. You don't know what the evidence is. Just because I can't google it doesn't give you any credible leg to stand on in arguing that the feelings of people living here are invalid.

You may not be able to link evidence, but you can still present some. Let's see what you have here.

People in the middle of it know when they're getting signals that it would not be safe to let their political leanings be known in their neighborhood, at their work place, to their kids' teachers, to fellow parents on the soccer field, .....

"Getting signals"?

One person who confessed to being a "coward" this year says that she got her political awakening in 2004 when her child's 6th grade teacher used the family's support for Bush against the child. She doesn't like being a coward but her husband works at a place full of liberals and her family has too much to lose if they were to be overt in their support for Walker and she's not going to risk it.

"Used the family's support for Bush against the child"?

Nothing very concrete in either of those examples. Both are completely vague and could refer to anything. You could "get a signal" consisting of someone frowning at you, or you could "get a signal" consisting of someone throwing a Molotov cocktail through your window. People could "use the family's support for Bush against the child" by teasing the kid and calling him nasty names, or by trapping him on the way home from school and beating the crap out of him.

The fact that you seem unwilling to specify exactly what is meant by either of these vacuous statements strongly suggests that both of them come a lot closer to the first of those than the second in each case.

Perception is reality, Dragon. If the people feel threatened, then they feel threatened. That is the reality.

As I type I'm listening to people calling in on a local conservative talk show. One caller noted the lack of Walker support signs. The host said people need to get off their butt and put the signs out. Then his phones and email inbox exploded with the reasons people aren't putting Walker signs in their yard or on their car.Law abiding Wisconsinites are afraid to show support for Walker. They're afraid for their safety. They're afraid their windows will be broken if they have a pro-Walker sticker. And they're especially afraid for the safety of their children. An elderly caller said her tires were slashed and a hateful message left behind because she had a Walker bumper sticker. THAT's what we're dealing with in Wisconsin. Some of these anti-Walker-ites are scary. Anti-Walker people feel free to talk as loud and as radically as they want, wherever they want. They make threatening phone calls to people who are doing business with Walker supporters. Anti-Walker teachers feel free to assign children to make drawings telling what is wrong with Walker. But parents are afraid to tell their children that they support Walker in case the child mentions it in school and is harmed in some way for it.We've been living through months of this now. We don't want to let intimidation win. But some of these people have abandoned decency. You can't trust they know where the boundaries are anymore.

You knuckleheads talk stupid since the summer of 2009, said all of the stupid things you said, acted hatefully as so many of you did, and now you cry when you get it back?

Really?
Wha.... OK... first off, I'd like an example of this... "talk stupid," which sounds strangely a lot like obama saying a couple policemen "acted stupidly." And then I'd like to know how you equate "talking" with "throwing a brick through someones front window," or "slashing someones tires." And yes, anyone who does that while sneaking around is a PUNK and a COWARD. They might as well wear their sheets because they're the same thing as a terrorist. Cowards that have to sneak around and hide.

Obama? That is a deflection, PR, and non sequitur.

The screaming rallies, the guns, the clubs, the threats, the rocks and stones and broken windows, the pulled down election signs, and all of that was somehow by the Left?

Bricks are wrong, and the ass holes who tried to intimidate since the summer of 2009 are just as bad. That's why several were warned before the second townhouse that acting like thugs would not be tolerated. Would not listen and they were arrested and handcuffed and escorted to the judge and put under bond to behave.

Stay in reality, please.

Walker needs to pass legislation like they did in Florida where it makes it legal to shoot someone on your property even you just feel afraid for your life. Once 4 or 5 unions hacks get smoked that shit will end.

it;s always interesting to see who thanks lunacy like that.

freak.

In 2004, I had people vandalize my W signs constantly. We had to put them in the house and luckilly no lib-fascist smashed it. I saw a few cars with "W" stickers keyed too. One day I watched some asshole go put up Kerry signs on public property and throw the W signs in the mud that were already there. I got out and put both of the signs side by side. Unlike the 50 something liberal thug, I believed it was honorable to let both stand.

But I expect that pussy type of behavior from libs, even in the conservative stronghold of the Fox Cities.

You aren't here. You don't know what the evidence is. Just because I can't google it doesn't give you any credible leg to stand on in arguing that the feelings of people living here are invalid.

I don't know what I would say invalid. Irrational, maybe. Disingenuous, probably. Relevant, absent any actual, objective, indication that such violence might occur.....unlikely.

People in the middle of it know when they're getting signals that it would not be safe to let their political leanings be known in their neighborhood, at their work place, to their kids' teachers, to fellow parents on the soccer field, .....

See, anyone can say something like this at any time, and it will never be less valid than what you are saying now. A person in Wisconsin could just as easily say that being "in the middle of it" they know that they're also getting signals that it's not safe to let their support for recalling Walker be known. At the end of the day it's like falling at work and spending the next two years collecting workman's comp for a soft tissue injury that "hurts no matter how many times the doctors say it's healed." Experience, wisdom, and Occam's Razor tell us that we shouldn't put any stock into these claims without something objective to go on.

When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher used the fact that my father was divorced against me. Small towns, and Wisconsin has many of them, are unfortunately over filled with gossip and petty small town politics, I cannot deny this. But your example here says, at most, people might have reason to be worried about their social status. Whereas, your opening post talks about a "fear" of positive violence. That's light years away.

You can call BS but you are NOT here so you just don't know.

There's an oil spring that just popped up in my back yard. I'm going to be a millionaire. You can call BS, but you're not here so you just don't know. Then again, you could probably use common sense to weed out that which is remarkably unlikely or rational to believe.

As GT quite conveniently demonstrated, many on the Left have no problem at all with breaking someone's windows or slashing their tires, if that other person is a conservative.

And this is exactly the stupid kind of bullshit that I am all too ready to rally against. You say "many on the left" as if to imply "most of the left, and only people from the left." Which is completely dishonest, or completely ignorant, or perhaps both. There are people on the right who would bomb businesses and murder church goers, if that person or business supports abortion. Some 7 years ago, there were conservatives in Harris County Texas throwing bricks through windows of one woman's home and office, making threatening phone calls, even mailing her letters at home saying "Obviously we know where you live, and we're pretty good shots" because she was engaged in a legal battle over the local courthouse's display of the Bible. But gee, nobody is suggesting that liberals in Wisconsin should be afraid of being bombed or shot for if they voice their support for abortion, or opposition to Walker. It goes both ways.

Speaking of cars getting keyed, I had a buddy back in 2003 who used white shoe polish to write anti-war messages on his windows just before the Iraq invasion. Not only was his car keyed, his windows were broken out, nasty names were spray painted on his car, one of his headlights was smashed, and his tires appeared to have been punctures using a flathead and hammer.

See, anyone can say something like this at any time, and it will never be less valid than what you are saying now.

Look. You discount an elderly lady calling into a radio show and saying her tires were slashed.

I can't give you police reports.

You will not see anything I say as credible.

I live here in Wisconsin where during the 2009 town hall season there was a supposedly public event at a college but the police colluded with the union people so that union members got front row seats and were allowed to carry pro-Obamacare signs while opponents were forced to wait outside for 30 minutes and had to leave their signs at the door.

YOU do not live here.

And no I can't give you a link to that. I tried to do a search for it, but it's just too long ago and there's too much healthcare noise to stop me from being able to find it.

But this crap happens here.

And thank God that we had someone as brave and stalwart and clear-sighted as Walker to take a stand against a culture of union corruption.

Now, it's true he may lose. There is a lot of money against him, a lot of loud people who feel empowered by the culture I have described for you, and a lot of people who just won't get the message about how good for Wisconsin Walker's reforms have been and are likely still to be.

But I'm glad that Walker was elected. And everyone in Wisconsin can thank him for the hope he has given this state for financial health.

Bottom line. Walker is a hero.

If I'd "meant" to say most of the left or only people from the left, I wouldn't have used the term "many on the left". What's completely dishonest is your trying to put words in my mouth that I never used.

The police were holding people with anti-healthcare-legislation signs out of the hall for this public meeting. No anti-healthcare-legislation signs were allowed in.

The police were letting union members with approved signs in.

Do you have a better word than collusion?

How is it "victimhood" to call it what it was?

Yes, they were. They were controlling access to the hall.

They denied (delayed) access to people with anti-healthcare-legislation signs. They let the union members with approved signs in. The result was a stacked hall which was reported on the local news as a group who overwhelmingly supported Obama's healthcare plan.

I do not believe that the media colluded in this. The media just reported it as they saw it. However, what they saw was the result of concerted activity of police and union members.

It was a breathtaking breach of the democratic principles of this country.

As I said to Inthemiddle, I am here and I presume that you are not.

I guess I can't blame you for not believing me. You really have to be here to understand the power and reach of unions in Wisconsin. I wouldn't have believed that the police would do anything like that if I hadn't heard it from people who were there.

I think it's very likely that Walker will go down, because of the unions' power and reach.

You don't take on that machine and not pay a price. It took guts to do what he did. And our state will be the better for it even though it might take years before the majority will admit it.
