Lance Armstrong is far and away the greatest bicyclist who ever graced the Tour de France, and he is beloved by the world community of those who have beat cancer. He was their star to hold onto while they believed in being able to recover from the disease.

That's why I love the ideals of this wonderful man.

I hope he comes out of this ordeal okay.

When you start erasing records willy-nilly you make sports and athletic competition meaningless. That was the problem with MLB basically wiping Pete Rose out of the record books. It was the problem with erasing Joe Paterno's wins off the books and it is the problem with stripping Lance Armstrong's Tour wins from him.

Test players while they are participating and if they are guilty of doping, then disqualify them then and there and sanction them from future events. But you cannot erase prior deeds and keep the integrity of the statistics and without valid statistics future generations do not have a damned thing to shoot for.
