John Stewart - Why energy independence didn't work.

damn, did I hear that right? obie wan said the exact same words President Bush said?? wtf?

Stewart is dead on...

Until Americans are willing to sacrifice to obtain energy independence it will never happen.

you dems sacrifice first, you get al fuckin gore to park his aeroplane and I'm wit ya bud.

Exactly right

Until Americans are willing to become more fuel efficient we will never become independent. Alternative fuels cost more now so R&D is not invested.

We need to build more nuclear plants and develop more balanced fuel resources

It's fun to see all the righties beginning to love Stewart because he's taking aim at Obama, just like he did at Bush. All those calls of "Biased hyperpartisan Liberal" seem empty now to say the least.

As for the video, classic Stewart and right-on as always.

If it happens, it will be based on "liberal" science with confederate conservatives fighting every step of the way.

Energy independence (for a nation) is not desirable, and energy independence at the household/individual level is not even remotely in the same ballpark of where it needs to be for civilization to even stay at the same level it's at now.

Does anyone know anything about comparative advantage? Simple economics.

Energy independence (for a nation) is not desirable,

:cuckoo:

If your desires are economic nationalism and a stagnant to shrinking economy, than national energy independence is great.

If you desire production of goods and services that are created and traded as efficiently as possible energy independence is garbage.

If I have to pay $7/gallon gas, $5/gallon milk, $10/lb hamburger for energy independence's sake that's ridiculous. You thought the middle class was disappearing now? Make (read: government force) the US energy "independent" tomorrow and 99% of Americans will be poor.

Don't forget about that uber liberal Reagan and Bush I.

Nixon, Bush, Reagan and Bush, quite a "Republican" legacy there.

Someone could equally say Johnson,Carter,Clinton, Obama - What the fuck are the demos thiking?

Civil rights, balanced budget, saving the world economy from a Republican depression, health care.

Now sure how the two groups of presidents can be compared?

Aren't you one of the people who always rant about Republicans trying to deregulate evil corporations so they can pollute everything in the name of profit? Both the EPA and the Clean Water Act were signed by Nixon. Deal with the real world.
