I don't really know who this person is aside from the Jack and Diane song, but why did they get so upset? They were supposed to be playing and singing songs, not doing whatever the heck that they were doing.

I think it may have to do with the attention span of many folks today. If I remember correctly, he reads a lot, lives real life, and does not use a smart phone or participate in the new fandangled electronic life style, his life moves slower.

"Here's a pro tip for anyone planning to see John Mellencamp tonight (3/19) at the Wharton Center in East Lansing: Shut up and enjoy the show.. . "

". . If you've seen John Mellencamp in concert, you know he likes to share stories between songs from his massive catalog spanning the last five decades. It's what the Indiana-born singer likes to do, and oftentimes his anecdotes are entertaining and funny.

If you just want to hear 'Jack and Diane' and 'Pink Houses' without interruption, may we suggest you stay home and build a playlist?"

Not in my world.

Pink Houses I believe it's called, you probably know the chorus, "ain't that America, you and me? Ain't that America, something to see baby".

Clearly an old song from the 80s when America was riding high and patriotic.

Oh yeah, I know that song.

. . . a bit on the socialist side, not so much woke though I'd say.

Damn, my guy has had a nip and tuck. Looks awful young, considering he was rocking out in the 80's when I was in High School.

If he sits there on stage, relating to the crowed anecdotes behind the inspiration behind a lot of his songs? I can see where some of his fans might not want to hear that. . .

SJWs on college campuses do the same sorts of things, when they encounter truths they don't want to hear. When folks encounter facts and truths in their lives, which conflict with their world view, that is known as cognitive dissonance.

They are forced to take measures to deal with it, to maintain their world view and ego.

I looked. There does seem to be speculation in the industry that he had some work done, looking at past and present photos.

I can't believe people still pay to see this. The phony accent he puts on is awful, too. Sounds like he's auditioning for Hee Haw.

Except the song wasn't about America riding high and being patriotic. Even though Reagan tried to co-opt the song for his campaign and Presidency.
It was about the common man and the people being left behind in the supposed boom years of Reagan. Rich getting richer..etc. :)

Not really, it was about "people just continue on and are happy with what they earn". I've read him state it himself, it doesn't matter even how Mellencamp himself tries to revise history, because it's en vogue.

This line encapsulates it all "and there's winners, and there's losers, but that aint no big deal. Cause the simple man, baby, pays for thrills, the bills, the pills that kill."

Springsteen pulled the same B.S with Born in the U.S.A. At the time he heralded it quite differently than he does years later. Like a painter who cuts his own ear off because he wants to be defiant and different, these guys lose their character. Look at Neil Young, yeah a real rebel, he is protesting what exactly? Free Speech? Then he comes whimpering back.

Wake up America. Fix things. Dont just break something different.
