It's a propaganda strategy. You repeatedly lump in one group with another until it becomes accepted that they are the same.

It's what is behind the leftist strategy of calling all Republicans "nazis". It serves the double purpose of inuring people to the use of the term, so that when people notice that leftists are engaging in nazi tactics, the left accuses THEM of engaging in propagandistic action...
