John Boehner: Ending Abortion Is 'One Of Our Most Fundamental Goals This Year'

By Laura Bassett

As hundreds of thousands of people braved sub-freezing temperatures in Washington, D.C., on Friday to join the anti-abortion protest March for Life, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to banning abortion in America for good.

Addressing the crowd at the National Mall via video broadcast, Boehner said it's time for anti-abortion activisits to "commit ourselves to doing everything we can to protect the sanctity of life." Step one, he said, is making permanent the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal dollars from being used to pay for abortions except in cases of rape or incest.

"For the new Congress, that means bringing together a bipartisan pro-life majority and getting to work," Boehner said. "In accordance with the will of the people, we will again work to pass the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, formally codifying the Hyde Amendment."

Boehner said he will make it a national priority to "help make abortion a relic of the past."

"Let that be one of our most fundamental goals this year," he said.

Several lawmakers made it out to the protest to address the crowd in person. Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) touted a bill she recently introduced that would strip Title X family planning funds from Planned Parenthood, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) delivered a sermon that called for a "spiritual cleansing."

"Our nation is adrift, adrift in a wilderness where right and wrong have become subservient to a hedonism of the moment," Paul said. "I believe our country is in need of a spiritual cleansing."

Republicans won't "end" abortion. That's the last major wedge of single-issue voters the GOP has left.

The problem is..they let the loons in.

So yeah..they are trying to end it.

It's going to be a big fat fail.

yeah nice sallow, people who are pro life are, loons..
that says a lot about you and our society

If republicans were to outlaw abortion it would be the end of the republican party. So many democrat voting welfare queens "clubbing" on the taxpayers dime would be squirting out babies they can't afford, who in turn, will only mimic the shiftless dependency of the queen that spawned them and their increase will create an electoral environment exclusively beneficial to democrats. Abortion = less democrat votes. Ergo, abortion can save the country from those who will vote for politicians as to provide for their laziness. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wKBhF3Kx_UQ

Not to worry, your all's precious abortions won't be interfered with

the people can't say the same for their second Amendment rights though

carry on

"commit ourselves to doing everything we can to protect the sanctity of life."

Gosh, wouldn't it be nice for a Republican to say, they're committed to doing everything they can to CREATE AMERICAN JOBS THAT STAY IN AMERICA.

Never happen though.

The days of a Republican party working for the US are gone and may never be seen again.

They passed several bills last year the senate refused to consider. Sounds like you anger is a bit misplaced.

Everyone is pro-life; the loons are the radical social right who want to undermine the right to privacy and attempt to legislate morality.

Yeah sure..we shouldn't have to legislate morality..and now you all are worried about "privacy". how about people who own guns? you all don't see a problem with THE GOVERNMENT stepping on them..

you are a two faced hypocrite as most of you are

1. The Constitution is dead silent on abortion, and thus, see the 10th amendment.

2. The second amendment, while it was originally meant to apply universally (I.e. it didn't start off with Congress [not the states] shall make no law) was once ruled that it did not apply toward state governments until liberals on the court incorporated the Bill of Rights against the states via the 14th amendment. As if that wasn't weired enough, liberals now advocate for "selective incorporation." indeed, in the liberal mind the constitution means whatever they want it to mean.

The right to privacy? The constitution is dead silent on abortion. Get over it an see the 10th amendment. That's not to say that I am not pro choice though. I'm just honest when it comes to the Law.

The right to bear arms to liberals is not a right, but the right to terminate a pregnancy nine months in--well that is a constitutional right.

Obama, as a state senator, supported legislation that would deny healthcare to children born from botched abortions. The left is sadistic.

please pay no attention to the google spammer LOL none of IT's posts directly address anything

John Boner has switched from confronting the budget and helping America grow the economy...

maybe he needs to get behind funding for research on soothing sore arseholes? or is that in front of?

who knows?

So what you're saying is...you have nothing say or contribute.

How about ensuring public money does not bankroll abortion? I'm not supporting outlawing abortion, the practice would not exist if it were to stand on its own. It is not a profitable industry.
