We should work to ratchet down the acts of brutality on both sides. We can start by demanding a ceasefire.

I’m not naive. After the brutality of the Hamas attack and the far worse brutality of the Israeli attack real peace is not a short term possibility.

The U.S. should demand compromise from both sides. For example, Israel must stop treating the Palestinians as second class citizens.

Reducing conflict is in America’s national interest and it’s the right thing to do.
