When I was a kid, I'd watch him and Gale Sayers. Both had shorten careers. Some because of the shorter seasons and others for injuries. Great running backs and good people.

After retiring from Football at 29, Jim Brown considered boxing Muhammad Ali.

Ali said, 'Jimmy, here's what we're going to do: You hit me as hard as you can.' So Brown starts swinging and swinging, and he can't hit him. He's swinging wildly and not even coming close. This goes on for, like, 30 seconds. Then Ali hits him with this quick one-two to his face. Jimmy just stops and says, 'OK, I get the point.'

Given that he excelled at just about anything he tried, it's not surprising that Brown briefly considered boxing after he retired from the NFL in 1965 at the age of 29. Specifically: Brown wanted to get in the ring with then-heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. And not just for a sparring match...

I heard about that. When Ali fought George Foreman in Zaire in 1974,
I was in the stadium for that fight with my dad.

In spite of his friendship with Ali, Jim was a ringside commentator at the fight, and predicted that Foreman would win.

When Ali knocked out Foreman in the 8th round, he looked at Jim and winked.
