Jason Riley at Fox News, skews truth about Fast Track Trade Authority’s opposition

Unfortunately, our big media will not discuss the unconstitutionality of the currently proposed Fast Track Trade authority which reduces the two thirds vote requirement to a mere majority vote. And this includes Fox News.

it has to go to the court before it can be deemed unconstitutional and no one has bothered to do that in the last 70 years because no one has a problem with it. So you are 100% wasting your time. What you ought to do is develop the IQ to make and argument for or against trade because that is what people care about and debate debate.

Congress can't give that authority away without amending the constitution.
wrong wrong wrong dear they have been doing it since the 1940's as regards trade so obviously they can. Next.
It actually began in 1934 with the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act. Congress gave the POTUS the power to adjust tariffs within preset limits, and from there that power has expanded exponentially. That being said it is still unconstitutional and you didn't address by what authority Congress has to circumvent the constitution without an amendment to it.

That being said it is still unconstitutional .

You mean you think it might be if it was taken to court. Why not join the real debate about trade. Not one opposed Senator even mentioned its unconstitutionality today during the Senate debate so why are you focusing on trivia.

I am fully aware that it needs to be taken to court and proven, I am the one in this thread who pointed out the most recent case that failed. I am assuming that you have at least a modest level of integrity. I am asking you to read Article 2 Section 2 of the Constitution and explain how our government can circumvent the powers given to the POTUS in the constitution. Any moron can make the argument that you are currently making.

There is no real debate about trade, it's a secret, remember.

dear the Senate debated it all day. I gather you don't have a position on free trade and are happy to play trivial pursuit??
What was debated today was Trade Promotion Authority and if you don't understand my position on it by now then my other assumption about you was correct. When the free trade agreement is actually released perhaps then I will be able to weigh in on it.

What was debated today was Trade Promotion Authority .

I heard every word. They debated TPP and TPA exclusively in terms of free trade versus protection, not one word on Constitutionality. They did that dear because free trade is the essential issue.

PS: there is a minority position against TPP held by Republicans Dick Morris and Ann Coulter and others I'm sure that the fine language in TPP allows for the free flow of labor across borders and therefore should be opposed

“What the documents showed was that out of a total of nearly $1.2 million given, an average of $17,000 was donated to each of the 65 “yes” votes. Republicans received an average of $19,000 and Democrats received $9,700.

“It’s a rare thing for members of Congress to go against the money these days,” Mansur Gidfar, spokesman for the anti-corruption group Represent.Us, told the Guardian. “They know exactly which special interests they need to keep happy if they want to fund their re-election campaigns or secure a future job as a lobbyist.”

Most economists and most of the world has been moving toward more and more free trade since Smoot Hawley in 1929. If there is a liberal who has an argument against free trade why is he so afraid to present it??

Senate prostitutes who voted to give Obama Fast Track Trade Authority

Here is the LINK showing our Senate whores who voted on 6/23/2015 to allow Obama to usurp Congress’ legislative powers to regulate commerce with foreign nations. These Senators also voted to ignore our Constitution’s two thirds vote requirement to approve any deals cooked up by Obama with foreign nations.

Not only did it pass the Senate but it's opposition did not mention the Constitutionality of it; instead they argued against free trade as a concept which only makes sense especially to conservatives who often think that liberalism is unconstitutional since it is about big govt and opposed to freedom.

You can't alter the parts of the agreement that you oppose. And who cares what the pundits think anyway.

You confuse free trade with a managed trade which is managed by those who represent the interests of international corporate giants, and who have no allegiance to America or any nation.

Under the NAFTA the America People's elected representatives were remove from regulating commerce with foreign nations, and this power was put into the hands of a group of panelists, the majority being foreigners!

See: Establishment of Binational Panels

Why do you have such a problem with Congress, the people's elected representatives, regulating commerce with foreign nations as our Constitution commands. Eh?

Fast Track Authority has to do with the procedure by which a trade agreement comes into effect. Fast Track has nothing to do with free trade other than the rules by which agreements become law. And the currently proposed Fast Track Rules violate both the text of our Constitution and its legislative intent.

dear, the question is does TPP make labor free to move across borders. Do you understand?

JWK

yes but since no one is considering it seriously. the best way to attack TPA is do what the opposition is doing and almost succeeded with. Do you get? If you have a car that came
in second in the race by a hair you work with rather than work with a car that has lost consistently by wide margins for 70 years.
Isn't thinking fun?

Fast Track has nothing to do with free trade

without Fast Track there would be no TPP. It makes TPP possible which is why we have it.

You, sir are full of crap. The Pacific Rim deal was negotiated long before Fast Track was approved. Fast Track was approved to lower the constitutionally required two thirds approval vote for a trade treaty [the Pacific Rim deal] cooked up by Obama with a eleven foreign countries. Fast track changed the constitutionally mandated two thirds vote requirement to a simple majority vote to approve the deal and is therefore unconstitutional. The procedure for approving trade treaties is stated in crystal clear language in our Constitution. Why do you have a problem with that procedure which requires a two thirds approval vote?

JWK

Now that trade treaties only need a majority vote to pass in spite of what our Constitution commands, it should not be difficult for our Global Governance Crowd to get whatever they want especially when they are willing to pay for what they want!

To support Jeb Bush is to support our Global Governance crowd and their WTO, NAFTA, GATT, and CAFTA, all used to circumvent America First trade policies, while fattening the fortunes of international corporate giants who have no allegiance to America or any nation.
