Paradoxically, Japanese in Afghanistan are serious hurdle in combating terrorists and real challenge to our whole mission in the country!
There are persistent rumors among our GI's there had been some sensitive data revealing the fact and passed to Washington either by Beijing or by the allied intelligence services. Actually most shocking revelation is that Japanese have been in close nexus with the Taliban warlords!!
Matter of fact, Japanese need it badly to prove they are the best in Afghanistan, real profi and all that....Sure thing terrorists are very helpful in the context and that is so to say mutually beneficial cooperation for Japanese on their part also are supportive of their "partners" in drug trafficking and other things you know. What is that sophisticated scheme?
Imho Tokyo has been always crazy about reanimating its military might. Tokyo is highly ambitious and needs full fledged armed forces (not just feeble Self Defense Forces) to achieve its goals in seizing new lands. That's possible only if America is dead interested in military upgrading of Japan. And it would be the case only when our pols in D.C. start viewing Japan as sole effective ally. That's quite probable for post communist countries (Georgia, Baltic states, Poland and others) have failed to match the status so far......

Um.....Yeah:doubt:

The Japanese government has said that it would end its nearly eight-year-old refueling mission in support of U.S.-led operation in Afghanistan.

“First and foremost, we want to thank the government of Japan for its contributions to our efforts to fight extremism in Afghanistan. Japan’s contributions have been very important, and we greatly appreciate everything that Japan has done in that regard,” said State Department spokesman Robert Wood.

It looks like all Japan does is buy fuel and deliver it to the multinational forces in A-stan.
