But that’s not the sort of rhetoric that Israel’s elites are worried about. Instead they’re furious that Middle Eastern Jewish teens from working class families think that Islamic terrorists should be shot instead of coddled. But while their daughters protest Israeli soldiers in between studying for degrees in philosophy at Hebrew U, it’s those horrible Jewish teens who actually serve in the army.

And that makes them even more of a threat to the dilettante artists and actors, the novelists whose books exist only to be translated, the generals who have no interest in winning wars, the spymasters and human rights activists who are spying for the EU, the jurists who make their own laws, the scowling journalists who issue nightly verdicts on the evening news and all the rest of the dwindling gang of the well-connected who are entirely disconnected from their own country. And who take pride in that.

Israel’s two populations exist in two different worlds. Its leaders want to be Europe while its people just want to be Israel. The former exist in a textbook in which Islamic terrorism is a moral and a philosophical problem. The latter live in a reality in which having a knife stuck in your back is a daily threat.

The elites think of the ordinary Israelis who just want to live in their own country without being shot, stabbed, bombed, barraged with rocks or forced to run to bomb shelters as Nazis. Meanwhile ordinary Israelis view the entitled elites who lecture them from presidential forums and prestigious columns as an undemocratic cartel abusing the privileges that they earned with their last names.

Israel isn’t sick. But its elites are. Israel isn’t turning undemocratic or fascist. But its elites are undemocratic and totalitarian. Their accusations of fascism mask their casual willingness to censor, suppress and silence dissenting views. Like all oppressive systems at odds with the people they rule over, they are playing a totalitarian game that they are bound to lose. And they know it.

Their bitterness and hate is an acknowledgement that their dream of running everything their way is dying. They have no path toward victory. There is nothing waiting for them except oblivion.

The left has reacted to this revelation by literally trying to destroy Israel. When the editor of Israel’s left-wing paper Haaretz urged the Secretary of State of the United States to “rape” Israel, it was a blatant expression of the left’s destructive agenda for the Jewish State. President Rivlin did not view the Haaretz editor as a sign of a “sick society”. Instead he eulogized him, saying that “it was a pleasure to be his friend”. Genuinely sick behavior of this sort is considered normative among Israel’s anti-Israel elites.

What offend them are not the calls for violence against Jews or the destruction of the Jewish State by members of their own class. Instead they are carefully attuned to denouncing even the faintest suggestion for strong action against Islamic terrorists by members of the country’s lower classes. A call for the mass murder of Orthodox Jews or Middle Eastern Jews from a respected actor in Neve Tzedek will meet with wry smiles. But a few Mizrahi soccer fans shouting that it’s time to strike back against Islamic terrorism after the latest brutal atrocity will occasion “democratic” alarms in editorial offices across the country.

This is a tale of two classes and two realities. It’s a fundamental gap between entitled human rights hipsters and working class teens whose grandparents were little better than slaves in Yemen. It’s a division between an elite whose parental ties secured them a soft spot in the economy and working men and women who spent all their lives doing heavy labor. This division could not endure forever.

Prime Minister Begin had already broken the power of the left by taking on its arrogant privileges. But Islamic terrorism is rapidly accelerating the collapse of the Deep State of Israel’s entitled elites who have chosen the side of the terrorists over those of their Israeli victims. The ordinary Israelis whom Rivlin views as “sick” and Golan as Nazis will be the ones to determine its future.

What I can't understand is why you're not in Israel. I suppose you have too much leftist hate of it to live there.

Israel's tolerance of the Arab Muslim game will eventually run out. When that happens I expect we'll see a very flat Gaza and more than a few of the Arab Muslim terrorist enclaves in Israel surrounded by some very high walls with very strict travel restrictions.

What do you intend by "I expect we'll see a very flat Gaza"?

Location, location, location. Terrorist headquarters make great parking lots for future Walmarts.

What the USA or any other country faced with the same violence as Israel would have done 40 years ago. They would have started at four points in side gaza and fired rockets and shells at them until it was flat, leaving the unoccupied land alone so the civilians could escape the bombardment.

Actually what the US DID after VE day when German snipers just wouldn't quit was to withdraw from the town, blockade it, and let the shelling begin. They'd bombard the area for a week or so and then see if the germans were ready to play nice.

IMHO thats a little over the top, so I'd suggest that since the Israeli's are wiling to trade land for peace and the Arab Muslims don't want peace then maybe they should try reversing their stance. Take land in response to terrorism. Identify the offenders and penalize them with not just a home demolition but banishment and a forfeiture of wherever they resided. Rinse and repeat

NEW CENTER FOR JEWISH HISTORY CEO HOLDS RADICAL ANTI-ISRAEL VIEWS
Should we expect presentations on the Nakba now at the Center?

The new CEO of the Center For Jewish History (CJH), David N. Myers is a leader of The New Israel Fund which openly supports a boycott of Israel, and holds leadership positions of IfNotNow and J Street. He has extreme viewpoints -- including supporting “some forms” of boycotting Israel, and that Israel should no longer exist as a Jewish state.

CJH which serves as the biggest repository of Jewish history in the United States, and serves as a centralized place of scholarly research, events, exhibitions, and performances.

David N. Myers' writings (available for perusal on Nakbaeducation.com) include “that the deep wound of the Nakba must finally be exposed to the light of day.” He writes of “the essential step of acknowledging Israel’s role in the dispossession of Palestinian Arabs” in 1948, and quotes Uri Avinery’s wartime memoir which claims “cruelty, indifference and violence by Israeli soldiers towards Palestinian Arabs.”

...

Campus Watch reported, “Myers, as noted in the April, 2011 Campus Watch article, 'Anti-Israel Jewish Studies' ... employed all the usual clichés—'cycle of violence,' 'disproportionately harsh'—to single Israel out as 'the most responsible party' for the 'escalating violence' in a July 2006 Los Angeles Times op-ed. In a piece titled, 'Rethinking the Jewish Nation' in the Winter 2011 edition of the Havruta Journal, Myers argued that 'Statist Zionism,' or a Jewish state, should give way to a 'global Jewish collective.'"

Those who endorse any form of a boycott of Israel, an end to the Jewish State and sit in positions of leadership for organizations that oppose Israel are free to hold these viewpoints. They should not hold positions of leadership in the Jewish community.

Mr. David Myers must be terminated as CEO of the Center for Jewish History.

Nope Israel would never stoop to that. In comparison to every other country which has had a dispute with its neighbour, Israel is the most humane. Others destroyed local populations, decimated them. In contrast the population of Gaza is fatter than ever and growing on a massive scale.

HATING ISRAEL AT THE CENTER FOR JEWISH HISTORY
When even medieval blood libels aren’t too much for the anti-Israel Left.

The Center for Jewish History claims to hold “the largest repository of Jewish historical documentation outside of Israel.” But now the Center has fallen into the hands of an anti-Israel activist who attacked efforts to fight campus anti-Semitism and defended a hate group promoting anti-Semitic speakers.

It’s hard to find a group opposed to the Jewish State that David N. Myers, the new head of the Center, hasn’t endorsed, participated in or been a part of.

JVP, an anti-Semitic BDS hate group, listed Myers as a JVP Academic Advisory Board Member in its leaflet accusing Jewish activists of “Misusing Anti-Semitism Charges to Silence Free Speech.”

Why would JVP be concerned about accusations of anti-Semitism? Not only is the BDS hate group violently opposed to the Jewish State, but it sponsored talks by Alison Weir, who had claimed that Jews drank Christian blood and engaged in the ritual murder of Christian children during the Middle Ages.

Weir promoted her anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on the radio show of a white supremacist and Holocaust denier. An article on her personal blog claims that, "The Zionists who created Israel and still run it are descended from the Khazars." Despite that, JVP continued hostingWeir. It cheered on Rasmea Odeh, a terrorist convicted of playing a role in the murder of two Jewish college students. When Miko Peled tweeted, "Jews have reputation 4being sleazy thieves", JVP initially disavowed him before apologizing for its reaction. This followed the same pattern of behavior that took place with Weir.
