Sorry, but I don't see how anybody could not side with her father. There's absolutely no way that he's being a jerk. If she wants his help with the wedding then she's going to do it how he wants it and in his budget, but if all she's going to do is rant about how he treats her like property and doesn't treat her like an independent woman, then she's going to get a taste of real independence and pay for it herself.

Pay for the wedding yourself, Toots.

Better yet, skip the big stupid wedding and put the money into something useful. Chances are, your marriage is only going to last about five years or so anyway.

Wow, that's one of the rare times on here that I actually agree with you.

Daddy needs to set a budget and anything above that is up to the couple.
Also make it clear that they get to keep anything below the budget.

Seems she objects to being walked down the aisle and given away.
Most recent weddings I have been to, the bride was not “given away”. The father just escorts her down the aisle and the father kisses her cheek, turns and leaves her at the altar

Here's another brainstorm I just had:

They should offer insurance policies for the parents of the bride should the marriage not last. It could be prorated. Let's say the marriage lasts less than a year, then the parents get back let's say 80% of the cost. Two years, 60%. Three years, 40% and so on.

Wow, you really do make sense where it counts. You know, politics aside you're not such a bad person after all. 🙂

I hate upspeak. It makes me want to punch her in the throat.

I just want to period for her being such an entitled brat and talking about her own father like that. Although, something tells me that he wasn't always present in her life and she's just used to getting her own way from her mother or whoever raised her.

I like how he one upped her.

49 years ago, (earlier this month) PJ and I paid for our own church wedding and arrangements. Her parents did not want some, locally notorious (though hard working, home owning) driving a new tricked out music box van, (that had been used for immoral purposes with their innocent daughter) in the family. The small church, decorated with flowers and well dressed hippies, resembled a truce meeting of the Hatfields and the McCoys.

It works. Don't sweat it. Gala wedding events paid for by someone else, do not last better, than small ceremonies with close friends.

Just my thoughts.

I see what you're saying and I agree, but she still had absolutely no reason whatsoever to treat her father like that. Congratulations btw. :D

Yes, she is a selfish little twat.
I mean seriously.
I have a daughter, and I gave her away at her wedding 7 years ago.
It was a big deal to me. Most definitely a high point in my life. It is a beautiful thing.
Her selfish virtue signaling is depriving her father, than man that raised her, a man who will be there for her, no matter what, for the rest of his days.
She is so full of herself, that she is unable to see that this gesture is not for her - it is for him.

She needs a good dress down from her mother.

I agree with you one hundred percent except for the fact that I think that the father might possibly have been absent the majority of her life growing up if she thinks that she can act like that towards him.

I'd hand her the price of the license, and directions to the town office
