There is a crime of illegal campaign contribution, but Cohen didn't commit it. The courts have already ruled that personal expenditures do not automatically become campaign contributions. We went over this and over it at the time Cohen submitted his plea deal.On top of which, had it not been an actual crime, the judge would have rejected his guilty plea on that charge.
