Is this rude.....?

Did you politely ask if that seat was taken, or did you stand around waiting to be invited to sit down?

I was going to but her cough and unwelcoming look made me decide otherwise. A few people walked in after me and they never asked her either....

So it was her body language more than anything that communicated to you not to ask?

Maybe her personal space includes the chair next to her.

I like my personal space too, but, sometimes you have to make a sacrifice. I would just say, I have a bad cold just warning you or would wear a mask! Not like every Drs. office doesn't have them!
I missed the part about it being the only seat available. Yes that was rude.

I wasn't actually mad about it - you get used to people being rude, and, I just figure she is probably a miserable person overall.... so I kind of felt sorry for her....

Me and the 4 other people that came in yes. One very fine gentleman offered his seat to me :) I declined, he was elderly...

Personal space is weird. When I was in Korea I found that the concept of personal space was non existent.

You should have been rude back. "Move your purse so I can sit down."

No, it was for the best... I didn't have to stand long.. This happens on the subway too but people are much more aggressive there! That would NOT fly on the subway!

Well, in all fairness, people on the subway know full well you can simply stand in front of them and break wind.

I'm at the Drs office, only 1 seat available, and a lady has her purse on it. She sees me but, doesn't move her purse. HOWEVER, she's coughed a few time, so, maybe she is being courteous?

the best defense is a good offense

stay away from people like

more so in a hospital or clinic

also it is ok to tell her to cover her mouth and offer

her hankie

Can people do that on command? So gross....

Yes, it is rude. I'd just have pretended not to see her purse and sat down.
Pretend like you don't see her and sit on her lap.

You people are merciless. Seriously, she looked very bitter... but still, I was like, you are not even going to say anything? It wasn't even a big purse, it was the size of a wallet or a large checkbook cover!

If I was in that situation, I would sit on the floor just to be on the more safer side since it would be in a doctors office. The floor is not where everyone else has been sitting, so you may be less likely to pick up whatever germs everyone else leaves behind.

God bless you always!!! :) :) :)

Nah, I just stood there but, it was awkward, because the only place to stand was by the reception window (which, BTW, is another rude thing.... the staff noticed they were out of seating, I know they had to have extra chairs in the office) .... anyway I knew someone would get up eventually and be called...

Not a good idea to be on a carpeted floor in any well traveled public place (think bed bugs...)

^^^ Bed bugs? Say no more.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. If you have never come into contact with bed bugs before, trust me, you do not want to...ever.

Once in a while I ran into this kind of awkward attitude at the casino. Women put their purse next to an empty seat and when I ask nicely to remove it. Grab the purse and give you this nasty body language like huh.

So you miss the days of the fanny pack?
