For those of us who have had to sit through predictable movies/plays/books that evince the accepted Liberal memes, you know: evil white folks, greedy big corporations and wonderful long-suffering minorities and native Americans, with wisdom beyond the ordinary, the times, they may be a-changin’!

Check this out:
“Late in David Mamet’s recently premiered Race, something happens that, for those accustomed to the pro forma left-liberalism of typical Broadway fare, is little short of stunning. The play deals with a black-white legal team defending a prominent white client accused of raping a powerless, young black woman. They’ve just learned that the centerpiece of their ingenious strategy to prove his innocence was leaked to the prosecution—the culprit being their stylish, newly minted female black associate, the protégé of the white, liberal attorney (James Spader).”

What? The villain isn’t an ‘old white guy’?

There outta’ be a law!

And, even worse- a comparison with Ms. Messaiah!

“Grier stalks over to a file, pulls out the young woman’s college thesis, and begins reading aloud. It’s full of the inchoate, anti-white rage characteristic of such efforts—indeed, it recalls Michelle Obama’s at Princeton. You think you know this woman, Greer tells Spader; you think she likes you, but she’s an affirmative-action babe, a perpetual victim. That’s how she sees herself, and this is her revenge.”

Where did this version of David Mamet come from? “…since he came out as a quasi-conservative early last year in a Village Voice essay entitled, “Why I Am No Longer a Brain Dead Liberal”—featuring his memorably succinct reaction to a soft-voice New Man on NPR on his car radio: “Shut the f*** up!”

“It hardly needs saying that ideological diversity in the American theater is long overdue…but among those that strive to make some kind of political or social point, the uniformity of perspective is mind-numbing. race hatred - antiwar plays - anticapitalism plays - plays about looming ecological disaster - plays celebrating gay life - and angry feminist . Most don’t hesitate to take easy swipes at religion or conservative political figures. “

But now-
“But now, with Race, Mamet seemed to be aggressively confronting those assumptions, clomping over turf no other playwright, never mind one of his lofty stature, even dared approach.”

Why?

The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.

Read the article here, there’s a little bit for everybody.

Good for Mamet. He's a good playwright and I'm sure his play would be entertaining whatever his actual political views are. Just like Forrest Gump was a good movie, despite the fact that many libs felt it was reactionary because it dared to point out the downside to the 1960s counter-culture.

I'll give another example: A recent episode of Law and Order (don't remember which one) looked as if it was ripped right out of the politics section of the newspapers and the internet. It dealt with the murder of an employee of an organization much like ACORN. At first a guy who was obviously pretty far-right (and even used the term "Obamabots") was thought to be the culprit. It turned out he wasn't, though. Actually, it was found that the murder victim was a young Conservative who had joined the org under false pretenses and had found some dirt on his bosses. The murderer, in the end, turned out to be another employee - a lib - and one of the bosses had given the order.

Personally, I found nothing distressing about watching this because I don't have a problem with the idea that even people who you agree with politically can do bad things, especially when their position of power is at stake.

My attempt was to indicate how rarely the conservative viewpoint is portrayed.

Actually, I filed the OP under a false slant.

If you read the article, Mamet pulls a reverse!

But the first part of the article was too good to let go.

And, yes, Mamet is a talent.

Is Liberalism Losing It?

Seems to me they really went off the deep end in the aftermath of Katrina.

It drives the collectivist authoritarian batshit when their beloved socialistic welfare state fails epically --like FEMA-- and the private sector--i.e. Home Depot and **gaaassssp** Wal-Mart-- run circles around Big Daddy Big Gubmint.

Mamet is just getting old and cranky. Lots of egomaniacs do once they've become has-beens.

For those of us who have had to sit through predictable movies/plays/books that evince the accepted Liberal memes,..
your list was juvenile and silly.

But what the whole post reveals about your psyche and you as a person, ....is highly embarrassing to observe in public.

Do you have any close friends you can talk to about your issues, or do you need a recommendation for a good shrink?

What the hell does she know about IT anyway.

The OP (political nitwitchic) has obviously been living in a cave.

The view she sees David taking has been done in television, movies, plays and books...

She just needs to get out more.

I've seen the progressive kneejerk reaction exposed as silly in numerous television shows. Where has the OP been hiding?

oh yeah, online and at FOX cable shows.

It's not her fault. She homeschools herself.

Oh brother... So predictable:

Mamet takes it all back. It turns out the young black associate didn’t leak the strategy after all. In fact, she’s actually deeply principled. And oh, by the way, the white guy they’re defending isn’t innocent, as we’ve been led to believe, but an elitist scum who thought he could buy his way around justice. What?!

The question arises: If David Mamet won’t risk offending the liberal provincials who form the backbone of New York’s theater audience, would anyone?

I kinda like getting under your skin.

I am not a fan of city journal, I find it racist and way too biased.

Has Mamet really converted? It seems he has gone from brain dead to brain dead, I read nothing in his so called transformation except random musing that often contradict each other. Only one example: If people are sometimes swine don't we sometimes need the police? Extrapolate here.

I thought the complete comment telling. "Further: I found I had been—rather charmingly, I thought—referring to myself for years as "a brain-dead liberal," and to NPR as "National Palestinian Radio."" Really? I have listened to NPR on occasion and I don't hear that.

Another of his comments: "This is, to me, the synthesis of this worldview with which I now found myself disenchanted: that everything is always wrong." Or just maybe everything on the other side is wrong and Mamet is too naive to recognize that in himself and in his so called conversion?

Comparing Bush and Kennedy forgets historic time and it ignores motivation and reason. And Kennedy continued bad decisions made by the Eisenhower administration. Whether he would have continued as LBJ tragically did is an unknown.

His analogy on government and work is too weak. He assumes government as an isolated entity which is naive at best. Government is us, we create it all the time in our decisions and our voting. Weak piece and since I've read him kinda bizarre, but creative authors often are bizarre.

Hey Middy, that is one of the problems of not reading the entire article, even if you don't like the fact that City Journal doesn't follow the party line.

Spoiler alert: Mamet actually ends 'Race' in the manner more to your liking!

Ironic how the state-run media proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that big government can't be relied on in a crisis....and yet they now support it to the hilt.

Where is this uniformity of messages in theater, I haven't seen it and I think it's just a desperate attempt to portray conservatives as downtrodden minorities. Although I do find it funny that one playwright (supposedly) going against the grain and now all of a sudden liberalism is shaking at the knees?

It looks a hell of a lot like delusion of grandeur.

Liberalism is alive and well in America. It's taken a hit overseas because they've seen what unchecked Liberalism gets them.

The problem is the Liberalism we once knew has been redefined and is now statism. It wants to destroy Capitalism and replace it with it's own type of societal ideals.

And you do it exceptionally well, PC. :clap2:

What I find most entertaining is how certain posters, when left with no response to the actual subject, resort to the tried and somewhat tired tactic of 'attack the messenger'. It's sad and says more about them than the person they seek to respond to.

With the Conservatives in control of the government, what the hell did you expect? From "Brownie" to Bush himself, there was nothing but rampant incompetance and idiocy. Bush appointed a failed horse show manager to one of the most important posts in the nation, and the result was exactly what was to be expected.

My attempt was to indicate how rarely the conservative viewpoint is portrayed.

Are you implying that the conservative viewpoint would be that the black man is evil and the white man is the victim?

No.....that is merely a carbon-copy of the Liberal viewpoint.

She wouldn't be so simplistic to put like that.

The Lib viewpoint is simply using false stereotypes to foment class-warfare. Conservatives would be hypocrites if they resorted to the lame-brained and easy to refute argument.
