It is neither progressive nor regressive.

Right now the truly wealthy have perverted the "charity" deduction to the point where they pay no income taxes at all, plus they CONTROL monopolies and pass control of their monopolies to each generation tax free by simply inheriting control of their phony charities.

If the charity deduction were eliminated, they would suddenly have to pay taxes for the first time, and the bulk of the taxes too. And their puppet politicians of both Parties would suddenly be wastefully spending the taxes of the wealthy, which they will surely stop immediately rather than let the politicians piss THEIR money away.

It's a win, win situation.

I make under 50k a year and if we repeal the bush tax cuts i will have to pay 3 more percent on my federal income tax.

I say no, the bush tax cuts actually benefitted the poor, as a percentage of income, more than the rich.
