CDZ Is it Christian to compare someone to Hitler?

The comparison is of the campaigns and hostile atmosphere created by the rhetoric.

That still doesn't make it right, does it?

No it doesn't. But then, neither does trying to restrict a single portion of the populous.

But that doesn't equate to exterminating millions of people, now does it?[/QUOTE]

My reference to restricting a single portion of the population is your seeming to want Christians to be polite, and not requiring it of everyone.

As for exterminating millions of people, that is not where Hitler started out. He started out talking about making Germany great again and singling out minority groups for blame. Does any of that sound at all familiar?

My reference to restricting a single portion of the population is your seeming to want Christians to be polite, and not requiring it of everyone.

I do require it of everyone, not that my requirements mean jack to anybody else. It is their responsibility to be civil, not mine to ensure their civility. But as far as my fellow Christians, they should know better.

Given the state and nature of politics these days, it is no surprise that the Republican primaries--and their candidates--have created an immense divide and stirred up untold amounts of hatred. Hatred between people who generally agree with one another, who claim to espouse to Christian values. However, I've noticed some Christians on my Facebook feed, here on USMB, or in general--Democratic Christians, Republican Christians--referring to Trump as Hitler, or liking posts that refer to him as Hitler.

I don't care who you are or who you support. But I just want you ask to yourself, "Am I being Christian when I compare someone to a genocidal megalomaniac? Am I being Christian when I agree with someone who compares someone else to a genocidal maniac?" Hitler wiped out 6 million Jews. So what makes you think Trump would do the same thing to members of oh, say, Islam? Even as foul mouthed, brash, and bombastic as he is, I highly doubt he is capable of carrying out such an atrocity.

Look I'm not a perfect Christian myself. Far from it. And I would agree should you say I have no place levying criticism. However, you should understand that the church is not the only place you're supposed to be or act like a Christian. You don't walk out of the church doors on Sunday morning and stop being a Christian. Christ roamed the ancient world preaching the gospel witnessing to others as he went. He rarely preached inside of buildings. He was the personification of God's will wherever he went.

So, why not us? Why can't we go out into our world and personify what Christ wanted us to be instead of engaging in things that contradict his teachings?

I'll leave you with these two verses. Those who claim to be a Christian who compare a person with Hitler are Christian in name only:

"If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. "

--James 1:26-27

"Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with a blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayers, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

--1 Peter 3:8-12

Religion has nothing to do with it.

Freedom for humanity is always fragile, even for Americans. There are no guarantees and its easy to fall into a state of bliss and feel like nothing could ever change. It always does at some point.

So human beings have to constantly monitor those who would seek power and compare them to those humans in the past that turned out to be monsters. And this is the crux, the MOMENT you start seeing similarities is the moment to act. You can't say "well let's see what happens".

“As a nation, we began by declaring that 'all men are created equal.' We now practically read it 'all men are created equal, except negroes.' When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read 'all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics.' When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty – to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.”

If the comparison is valid, it is speaking the truth. I have not seen anyone accuse Trump of murdering 6 million Jews. The comparison is of the campaigns and hostile atmosphere created by the rhetoric.

And yes, modern politics has gotten to a disgusting level of hostility. But that is from BOTH sides.

Sorry. Both sides don't do it.

That may be what they mean, but it'll most likely have a grammatical flaw, an incorrectly used word, and a misspelling in it too. LOL

Sorry, but both sides do it. Have you already forgotten the Dems vocally hoping George W would be assassinated?

Thank you, and whatever "few" be named had best be incredibly important to driving the Democratic party, because I don't remember that being a party level thing either. I wouldn't put it past some crackpot who is/was also a Democrat to have voiced such a heinous idea, but "the Democrats," enough of them that it could have legitimately been considered a "thing" within the party? That's not something I remember having happened....

Depends on whether you accept these guys as at once "important" and "Republican."

You've deflected. How unexpected.

Both sides have been shitty at times......but....it is very, very clear to anyone who pays attention that the driving force taking our political discourse to lower and lower levels has been coming from the right. Period.

Given the climate created by such blatant disloyal opposition.....it isn't odd that the occasional instance of Democrats playing tit-for-tat occurs. Playing the game or getting trounced by bullshit tactics isn't a good choice, is it?

And let us add, people are noting the similarities between Hitler, Mussolini, and Trump. So far.

If he doesn't continue down that road and his followers don't go farther down that road then good.

The result of one of these types egomaniacs ever gaining power of a modern industrial/military power, let alone the lone Superpower on Earth, would be so cataclysmic for the entire human race that no person should chide anyone for raising a hand and saying, "uh, hey remember these images we've seen before and the words used before and what the crowds looked like and did before, well it looks alot like what is happening now". This is THE reason history needs to be taught in school. To learn and understand what the human race is capable of and what to look for and what comparisons to be made.

Because missing the signs and letting even one of the these monsters slip through again will likely doom billions to death.

Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Do we really need to make the comarison between Hitler and Trump? No, we likely do not need to go that far. Does the comparison between Germany in the 1920's and '30's with the current state of society in the U.S. bear out similarities? You decide:

“It is not truth that matters, but victory.”
Adolf Hitler
“By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise.”
Adolf Hitler
“I use emotion for the many and reserve reason for the few.”
Adolf Hitler
“Demoralize the enemy from within by surprise, terror, sabotage, assassination. This is the war of the future.”
Adolf Hitler
“The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.”
Adolf Hitler

“Citizens! Do not believe that the Germany of misfortune and misery, the nation of corruption and usury, the land of Jewish corruption, can be saved by parties that claim to stand on a foundation of facts. Never!” From a 1920 campain poster in Munich, Germany

“National Socialism: The Organized Will of the Nation.” Another campain poster in Germany

“The people rise! They vote..." 1930 poster in Germany

“Germans! Give your answer to the System! Elect Hitler!” Spring 1932 presidential elections in Germany

I could go on and on. See any similarities in today's slogans, both Republican and Democrat?

Will we devolve into another Nazi like regime? I hope not, but the ground work is there. Open your eyes.
