Greece is a long, long way from getting to those oil and natural gas reserves. They are years away from meeting their own domestic energy demands, much less being a net exporter. They certainly won't be getting there in time to pay off their debts.

What's more, the waters in the Aegean are claimed by both Turkey and Greece. If there is oil there, don't expect Turkey not to put up a fight. It will be war. Turkey and Greece are the India and Pakistan of Europe. They are on a hair trigger war footing with each other.

As for the gold, Greece will mine, at best, three quarters of a billion dollars of gold in the next year.
