Everyone of us, in my opinion, should have the ability to care for ourselves should it ever become necessary. Having an education, occupation or specific in-demand skill can be invaluable towards this end.

Some men want their spouses to be financially dependent upon them, that way their wives has few[er] options if she has no money of her own or family upon whom she can rely if the marriage becomes untenable.

On the other hand, there are men who appreciate women who are educated, cultured, well read and wordly, who can assist them if need be, protect their interests and make them look good (or even better) to their male friends, at least from what I've heard :)

Well they laughed at that lady on the right in the end, and that's a good thing. "Too much education fogs up the mind too much". Heaven help us. heh

The assumption here is that one must attend some type of school in order to be educated

Spoiler Alert

You don't have to

No, you sure don't. It was a little more difficult to be well-educated and not attend some type of classes in the 60's, without the internet. It's a lot easier now, with all the resources, including access to human resources, online.
