Trump Won’t Release His Taxes, Says Top Aide

“It has nothing to do with Russia,” campaign chairman Paul Manafort said.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will not be releasing his tax returns, his top aide said Wednesday on “CBS This Morning.”

“Mr. Trump has said that his taxes are under audit and he will not be releasing them,” Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, said.

Addressing questions about whether Trump has financial ties to Russia, Manafort said Trump’s decision to break with tradition and not release his taxes “has nothing to do with Russia, it has nothing to do with any country other than the United States and his normal tax auditing process.”

The Trump campaign is under growing scrutiny for its business connections with Russia and for Trump’s friendly attitude toward Russian President Vladimir Putin. Emails from the Democratic National Committee were released last week at a favorable time for Trump, and the U.S. government suspects Russian hackers were responsible for the breach.

Manafort has worked for the pro-Russian president of Ukraine, and another Trump aide, Carter Page, has worked as a banker in Russia and did deals for the state-controlled oil company there. Trump has repeatedly said flattering things about Putin, and at least one of his hotels was financed by questionable funds from Eastern Europe.

Trump has said before that he won’t release his taxes because his tax returns are being audited by the IRS. However, the head of the IRS has said that being under audit in no way prevents Trump from releasing his tax returns.

“If you’re being audited, and you want to do something else, share that information with your returns, you can do that,” IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said in a CSPAN interview in February.

What is Trump hiding? We don't even know if Trump really is being currently audited. He may even be lying about that.

So having one year being audited doesn't mean all his years of tax filings are being audited.

If this year's return is being audited and he wants to use that as an excuse to not release this year's return, that doesn't mean that excuse applies to past years.

Where is the return for last year and going back at least 7 years? I'm sure those aren't being audited.

Why not show them?

And yes being audited doesn't mean you can't release the forms. nixon did it while he was being audited.

We all knew that Trump "can" release his tax the turns while under audit, but any lawyer would tell you this is stupid due to the protections that we all have while the IRS is investigating us. The taxpayer has a right to privacy and confidentiality while under audit. They could end the audit today and this would be moot. However, the law protects the returns of anyone as long as they are under audit. You have no right to require Donald Trump to release his returns, by law.

If Nixon was able to release his tax returns when he ran back in 1973, while undergoing an audit, why can't Trump?

Probably because he's a bigger crook than Nixon was.

I am not a Trump supporter. Having said that:

1. Releasing tax information is not a requirement for running for president.

2. His lawyers reconmended that he does not release them. Why give the IRS thousands of extra eyes to try to find something wrong?

He wants to be president. He should be able to take a little scrutiny.
Well, don't vote for him. But you wouldn't vote for him anyway which is part of the point. It primarily people that wouldn't vote for him anyway that are demanding tax returns.

Nope. You don't get off that easy. Of course I would never vote for him, because I'm not insane. Think of the purpose for wanting his tax returns along the same lines as all those fruitless investigations of Hillary. Just because you didn't find any proof of Hillary's wrong doing doesn't mean there isn't proof of his wrong doing in his tax records. We have a right to know that about a person running for the presidency, and the only reason he is holding back is because he knows there is something really bad in there. Trump is a scam artist, and anyone with a brain can see that.

Possession of the Tax records are in the hands of President -Elect Trump's Tax Attorneys hands... rumor has it pbo is trying out to be the 4th Dixie chick... Any truth to this princess?

Isnt it funny how libtards assume that no one has any valid rights to privacy or legal counsel when it gets in the way of their politics?

Wow, talk about foreshadowing....
