International Differences in Sex Education

Sex education in the US is abysmal compared to other countries.

You're absolutely correct that we don't teach it right. We fail to teach either, nevermind both of the genders their proper place in a sexual relationship. We don't teach them that there are consequences to sexual activity, especially outside of a committed, long-term relationship. We don't teach them much of anything truly pertiment to what they really need to know about sex.

Soooooooo, the relevant question is, what does the "teen birth rate" mean? Is it an indication of the "success" of a nation's sex education policies?

Obviously, patently, emphatically not.

The only basis on which one would conclude that "poor" sex education leads to a high teen birth rate is if you assume that teenage girls are copulating, but are not aware that this is an act that might result in pregnancy/births.

Which is patently absurd.

The U.S., unlike most European countries, has large ethnic groups in which illegitimate births to teenage girls are the norm (African-American), and relatively early marriages are the norm (Mexican immigrant). Thus, the high teen birth rate is completely explained.

Neither of these phenomena has anything to do with sex education.

It might be enlightening (I'm being sarcastic) for the person who goes by "Delta..." to explain the correlation between sex education and teen birth rate.

Glad you asked :)

Delta IV - Memory Alpha the Star Trek Wiki

Star Trek Deltans

"This usually bald species hails from Delta IV, and is known for being highly developed in the arena of sexuality. In fact, Deltans in Starfleet are required to to take an Oath of Celibacy, so that they do not take advantage of less sexually advanced species. Enterprise navigator Ilia, who was killed by a probe from V'Ger, was a Deltan. Another served on the bridge crew of Captain Styles on the original U.S.S. Excelsior. The Delta IV delegation also has a seat at the Federation Council along with other UFP members."

Ok, ya didn't so much ask about the name as other things but it's hard to work it into conversation without taking some liberties :)

US has ethnic minorities, Europe does not? Ever hear the European term ethnic cleansing?
