International Campaign To Abolish Nuclear Weapons Wins 2017 Nobel Peace Prize

The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, or ICAN, a global organization seeking to "outlaw and eliminate all nuclear weapons" under international law.

The prize was announced in Oslo, Norway, on Friday morning. The committee praised ICAN for drawing attention to "the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons" and for "ground-breaking efforts" to ratify a treaty banning nuclear weapons.

Definitely. Believe it or not, just had a conversation about it this very morning. I dropped off some empty sea-sparrow missile tubes to a location that will remain nameless, in a state that adjoins my own, and we got to talking about how this location and my area of Missouri would both be prime targets of nuclear strikes in the event of all out nuclear war. His, because of the nature of the towns chief manufactured goods, mine because the missile silos are all around us. We decided it was best to be killed in the first wave...not much point in hanging around after that.

We were blowing up nukes in atmospheric tests for years. So were the Brits, French, and Russians. The Chinese did not sign the partial test ban and continued atmospheric testing past 1963.. The Pakis and Indians tested underground as did North Korea.

Did those tests destroy the world?
