The Daily Beast article by Matt Lewis: “Impeachment Proves There's No Republican Left to Believe In”, makes Lewis appear he is from another planet. Of course he is not, but has he been in a coma since 2015? Living in a remote cabin high on a mountain with no contact with the outside world? How has the reaction of the GOP to trump escaped Lewis’s notice for these past five years?
Lewis must be one of the four people in the world who are aware of U.S. politics, but are surprised by Moscow Mitch’s gang voting to preclude witness testimony in trump’s impeachment trial. In the coming days is Lewis again going to be caught off guard when the big-orange-in-chief is acquitted by a unanimous vote by Moscow Mitch’s gang of Republican crooks?
Trump’s presidential campaign was a gratifying period for the Republicans. The hatred trump brought out in the attendees of his political rallies demonstrated to party leaders their Southern Strategy was more successful than they could have hoped. And this success isn't confined to the South, but has spread across the entire nation. trump’s hate-filled rhetoric freed conservatives to publicly express their Nazi bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia, racism, etc., as white Christian conservatives involved themselves in countless incidents screaming at people of color to, “Go back where you came from!” Physical assaults by white conservatives on minority Americans increased owing to trump’s regular encouragement.
When they saw how quickly and completely trump’s hate speech had fired up their voter base, even the “never trump” Republicans in congress soon came around, jumping on the trump bandwagon.
Through trump’s contacts, Republican politicians like Moscow Mitch, discovered the generosity of Russian oligarchs. Individuals who are willing to spend millions-of-dollars on projects in this country, especially after discovering how very cooperative local conservative politicians in the red states can be.
What the rest of us remember but seems to have escaped Matt’s notice, during trump’s presidential campaign he bragged of crimes he had committed in the past and had faced no legal consequences because he is so powerful. He wants people to see him use his power, and is why he and and family members continually boast of their illegal activities, virtually challenging anyone to hold him accountable. Conservatives absolutely love his bravado and eagerly justify his ongoing corruption claiming it as their own power over liberals.
trump has abandoned U.S. allies that have been our partners in protecting democracy since World War II, and following that cozied up to dictators conservatives have called our enemies for decades. And for doing this, nearly all congressional Republicans have pledged trump their undying loyalty, as have all his supporters nationwide.
In the coming days, the Senate Republicans will proclaim trump innocent of any wrongdoing, placing him above the law and all constitutional restrictions limiting his authority. His acquittal will effectively nullify the constitutional checks and balances established by the Founding Fathers, and led by John Roberts, the Republican controlled Supreme Court will declare it so.
An executive order from trump will soon be known as a royal proclamation.
It will be a moment in time conservatives will cherish, and the plutocracy the right wing has longed for will, at last, become reality. After this, perhaps, Matt Lewis will have recovered from his blind stupor and finally get a grasp on what's been happening during his long slumber.
(Note: Before anyone jumps to obey trump's commands, especially military personnel, remember Nuremberg.)
