Like a huge aircraft carrier, the U.S. economy changes direction in a very slow pattern.

The impact of Trump's moronic tariff wars will not be felt in the next couple of months; rather, the impact will become apparent just before the 2018 midterms, resulting in a negative "unforeseen consequence" for the republican party.

From dairy farmers in Wisconsin to auto workers in South Carolina, the once "applauded" demagoguery spewed by Trump, will be countered by the stark reality of loss of income for the once "loyal" Trump voters.

Wake up America.......you don't run the world largest economy as you would some shady and corrupt real estate deal in New Jersey.

I would not say the US economy exactly changes direction but you are right - they are fucked by Putin.

Things are already changing. Stock market is struggling to maintain gains made last year, inflation rising, interest rates going up... The indicators are there for all to see.

Very early. Things can change overnight with the capitulation of one of our trading partners.

Most serious people know this. Most serious people know not to project too far.

A majority of us continue to hope for the best, even if we didn't vote for him.
.
Can't turn around "overnight" in either direction.

Nat, you guys make so many predictions that fail, lets slow down.
The fact is, he's using our leverage to make better deals. They didn't think he was serious, now they know he is, lets see how it shakes out.....I'm betting our trading partners will capitulate, even China, they lose our market, they are in serious trouble.

I remember those saying the economy would collapse overnight if Trump was elected. Instead it has increased and companies have committed to moving back here or increasing their plants already here.
Germany is already talking about lower their tariffs on vehicle imports from America.
Maybe just once wait and see what actually happens instead of going off the deep end by letting emotions outweigh logical thought processes.

If he'd just gone at it with China you would have a point. As it is he just fucked us all in the ass.

No, I think he's smart, he is confusing people and making them scared. They don't know what to do. Germany is looking into concessions about cars now. no increasing their tarrfis, but reducing them. It will work and why?
Because we have the market everyone wants, Trump knows this and will use it in negotiations. Why in the past we let people fuck us over, when we had the power, I'll never know, but those days are over.

Two years ago the radical hate filled left considered corporate America to be the enemy while the OWS rabble disrupted traffic and threatened bankers. Did you ever hear lefties worrying about Wisconsin farmers except to ridicule them as cheese heads? So far the Trump economy hovers around 25,000 and Black unemployment is at a historic low and trust in Trumps economic agenda is at an all time high. Under a succession of chicken shit presidents, both republican and democrat, the U.S. has been played for the biggest patsy in the world and let's see how the tariffs work out in the level playing field before we start worrying about Wisconsin farmers.

IT'S ON: Trump's trade war is set to kick off with tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods

Trump - idiot.

When an importer picks up his tariffed merchandise at Customs, he can try to pass along the duty to his customers or eat it. If he tries to pass it along, his customers will look for a cheaper domestic source and find one. So if he wants to maintain his market-share, he'll eat the difference and try to wait out the tariff. In the case of China, they plan to resell tariffed US goods and try to cancel their futures contracts which will infuriate American exporters who in turn, won't trust them again. China's stock market was already jittery over their over-extended and heavily leveraged economy. Trump understands this world far better than any ponytailed econ professor and is making his move at midnight tonight. China won't be saved by the WTO this time...they've been begging for an ass kicking for 30 years and now they're going to get one.

If it’s all the same to you we’re just gonna toss this atop that huge heep of previous failed lefty wet dreams over there in the corner that also predicted the coming demise of president Trump. That way the space will be clear and ready for the next lunatic dimocrat’s laugher, er I mean contribution to that old but true definition of insanity. Thanks, sport.

I wonder precisely how the Chinese counter tariffs will work. If they just target commodities which other countries produce too, like soybeans, then not so much, because other countries' soybeans will go to Jina, while our soybeans go to countries that were importing soybeans from other countries.

The EU and cars is a ? Will they keep making cars here for export if we punish them for exporting a smaller # of cars to sell here? When will decisions be made. Merkle signaled compromise, but Trump makes decisions upon personal grudges because of his yuuuge ego and tiny little hands.

He thinks he walks with Trump.

BTW, Trump has another $200B in tariffs against China in the works and $300B after that.....if they're smart they'll yell "uncle" or Trump will have their ass in a sling by Halloween.
