If You "Own" a Pet of Any Kind

“Pets, it turns out, also have last wishes before they die, but only known by veterinarians who put old and sick animals to sleep. Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a vet what was the most difficult part of his job. The specialist answered without hesitation that it was the hardest for him to see how old or sick animals look for their owners with the eyes of their owners before going to sleep. The fact is that 90 % of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so that they don't see their pet leave. But they don't realize that it's in these last moments of life that their pet needs them most. Veterinarians ask the owners to be close to the animals until the very end. ′′It's inevitable that they die before you. Don't forget that you were the center of their life. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. No matter how hard it is, don't leave them. Dont let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they dont like. It is very painful for veterinarians to see how pets cannot find their owner during the last minutes of their life. They dont understand why the owner left them. After all, they needed their owner’s consolation. Veterinarians do everything possible to ensure that animals are not so scared, but they are completely strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the pet. Endure this pain for the sake of their sake. Be with them until the end.”

Also, if you have multiple pets and if at all possible, let them sniff the one that passed so they know why their friend isn't around anymore. They understand the scent of death, but not disappearances

It is your duty to be there for his/her final days

I learned back in the latter sixties that there was not going to be a last Day(s) for me. I just re-enlisted with a drive unlimited to get them all back no matter how long it took, no matter the cost no matter the effort it takes. I ended up in our Makers camp as I had come to realize through time about my limitations plus out$ide interference & realized I would need Makers help to get them all back to me(I'd share them of course with ALL that reside within the realm). Pets come in all shapes, sizes & species as the below vid so richly illustrates.

One of mine died in my arms. The pupils go from black to grey.

There's just something so Bad about it! Seriously- when my parents got old- and passed... the dog trauma was far worse.. Why? Because they're like kids?

You can tell when cats start failing, as they lose interest in eating. So you try various things. Raw ground turkey, human baby food (in meat flavors), tuna water, stuff like that.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I had one old girl I kept going for another year with such special treatment.

Two others, when they got near death, they headed out on walkabout to do their dying in private.

My last boy, he only lived about a week after a noticable decline started.

On his last day, he couldn't walk anymore, and he'd howl in misery if I left him alone. When I put him on my lap, he purred and went to sleep. I called around to emergency vets about euthenasia, but this was during peak COVID. They were all understaffed, and they basically told me to not bother coming in, because animals who might live took precedence. So I kept him home on my lap. That turned out to be the right choice. About 3AM I fell asleep, when I woke again at 6AM he was dead.

He would show his affection by slashing me. He was a big boy with some serious weapons, and my arms were always crisscrossed with scratches. When he'd sit on my lap as I was at the computer, I'd try petting him with one hand and working the mouse with the other. That wasn't good enough for him. He demanded petting with both hands, and used TheClaws to get it. I still miss the big jerk.

.

Almost the hardest thing I've ever done, but no harder than the commitment she made to me -- to be with me forever.

My heart is broken, from all the dynasties of cats I’ve been through.

The vet came round to the house for one of them, to put him to sleep. In his favourite armchair, and we played some calming piano music on the sound system during the heartbreaking process.
