Also if the perp(s) are caught should they be detained by public officials or military officials? Basically do you think this should be treated as a crime or an act of war?

How would you define statesponsored terrorism? Bin Laden got most of his money from people in Saudi Arabia, many of them in high government positions, did that make the 9-11 attack state sponsored?

What about the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebenon? Hezbolah was definately responsible, and most of their support came from Iran. France at least struck back at the Hezbolah in Baalbeck. Reagan did nothing because he had people in Iran making deals.

I really doubt this is state sponsored. It has more the earmarks of an amateur effort. Whomever did this horror must be brought to justice. Period.

Terms like "act of war" and "terrorism" have, at this point, completely lost any sense of meaning.

Barring any extraordinary new pieces of information coming to light, this should be handled by law enforcement, not the military.

It's a crime unless it was authorized and carried out by another nation against us, so very likely this should be handled as a criminal case. I would imagine that it will be considered a federal crime. I'm not sure what all the prerequisites are for that to happen, but I imagine they can make it happen if they want. Under federal law, the person responsible would be eligible and likely to receive the death penalty, where in Massachusetts they would only be eligible for life in prison.

If this was proven to be authorized by an actual government, then the response should be swift and simple. We could easily decimate an entire city if we choose to do so with regular bombings. Hit them hard and then leave it at that. What we cannot do is start another war like Iraq or Afghanistan. Their purpose is pointless in the long run and only costs more American casualties.
