If The Senate shuts this down....

Ironic, since you are posting in a thread started on the premise of attacking the process.
I took the OP to be speculation on the open question of how many republican senators will just go along with trying to sweep it all under the rug in spite of the damage it will do to the republican party. The political calculations being done by republicans right now must be a cause of great torment to them. They earned this mess by telling the president he had their unconditional support no matter what.
Not like Dems haven't been squirming since Trump won.
This whole affair is in hopes that they can either force Trump out or create enough dislike to make their candidate look better.

To tell the truth I hope that Trump wins a second term, the house and senate go to the Republicans with enough of a lean that no matter what is proposed the Dems don't have enough to shut it down.

Then just for giggles I would love the house to propose to exhonerarte his impeachment just I could watch Pelosi have a stroke.

We already know republicans want a permanent one-party state and an absolute plutocratic ruler.

yea like the democrats dont want one party rule...

Do you speak for all Democrats? Remember, the Democratic Party has been and remains a diverse group. That cannot be said for the Republican Party. Though one time they claimed to be a Big Tent Party, that failed right quickly.
do you?....i worked with enough of your fellow democrats to know exactly what they want.....their party in charge....go ahead deny that wry....

I like to believe that most Americans agree that this should at least look like justice has been served. The form of the trial leaves senators plenty of time to examine their life choices that led to this sorry situation where conservative lawyers will be arguing that abuse of power and obstruction are not impeachable offenses. It's anyone's guess if it will goad any of them to honor their oaths.

Abuse of power did not occur and obstruction of Congress is simply fiction. Maybe the Democrats will examine their life choices and vow not to be stupid any longer.

Trolling ^^^, but I won't bite; you're not worth it.

It's because you are too stupid to answer the question without using your crayons first.

THOUGHTS FROM AN INDEPENDENT

It's crystal clear that Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham are eager to sweep this Senate impeachment trial under the rug, shut it down, and allow no new evidence or witnesses. But what happens if they try to do that? Will other Republican Senators march in lockstep, and try to deal with the coming election fallout in November? Will they break ranks and join the Democrats in insisting documents and witnesses being suppressed by President Trump be revealed? Recent polling shows:

71% of Democrats, 56% of Independents and 40% of Republicans say Senate should call additional witnesses to testify.

51% say Senate should remove Trump from office.

Either way, Senate Republicans are in a tough spot. Do they cave in to public opinion and hold a fair trial? or do they cave in to Donald Trump and risk being removed from office in November?

JMHO - Too close to call right now.

BULLSHIT. Don't believe what you read. The man on the street knows nothing but what they are told to believe. They are idiots. You are an idiot. What people think they want here is irrelevant. Just to drive home how stupid you are (and I'm sure you're much smarter than the average person), where in the constitution does it say anythings about:

When impeaching a president, take a poll.

Of course they want power, so does everyone in life. But my point was, the R's want power for the sake of power, and self interest. The D's I know, and that includes several who are or were members of Congress have the same values which I hold - equal rights and equal opportunities for all.

Right. The safe harbor of those who cannot post anything of substance or thoughtful - the ad hominem. You're no admiral, my guess is you're like a lifer chief, drunk every night in port.

Wrong. Dems don't want equal rights or opportunities for anyone. They still segregate minorities, race, ethnicities into nice little bouquets in order to placate and offer more freebies to keep them in bondage.

Why all the screaming & wailing, the Republicans have the majority in the senate, they will cut him lose. end of story.

Won't be that simple. Just a month ago, Mitch would have had a short presentation and then a vote to acquit. Dead and buried by New Year's. But Nancy didn't turn the articles over. She wanted assurances of a fair trial. And then the moderate Republicans in the Senate started looking at the numbers. 23 seats in play for them as opposed to 12 for Democrats. 4 of those Republican seats right now are considered toss ups. It wasn't hard for them to figure out what the optics would look like if this was just a party line dismissal. The key in both the Senate races and the Presidential race are the small number of independent voters, many of whom have had enough of Trump and his antics.

This is going to be the most interesting election I've seen in my lifetime. I got my popcorn and microwave pretzels ready.

It's not the Senate's job to conduct an investigation. The House should have done that.
And the HOUSE should have went to court to enforce their subpoena(s). The Obstruction charge is baseless because the HOUSE failed to follow legal remedies. Article two is DOA before we even begin.

We don't care. Just end this fiasco.

For what? They will just start another one. And they will continue to hound Trump until his last day in office. Hopefully, they lose the House and we pickup more seats in the Senate. That would shut them up for Trump's second term.
Trump's second term is all gravy. He should just give it back totally. Nothing to lose. Many of these men and women have very little concern about the citizens. Its more about the party and agendas. And we see it in all the colors.

I'm sure that will take place if we also dominate the House as well. Trump winning is a shoe-in. That's what Democrats fear the most. So our real focus should be on the House. Piglosi will not only be the first female SOH, but one that lost her position twice in her career.

No offense Ray, but I think the real focus should be on the Senate, so they can keep on filling those federal judge positions and also the president's cabinet. Not to mention another Supreme Court replacement or 2. Maybe 3?

Gee, wouldn't that be great. A Plutocracy of old white men.
We made it great and we run it great
You didnt and you can’t

That's why the minorities were knocked out of the contest and now all you have is a bunch of rich white people for the nomination.

The Republican party is closed to nobody, but we can't force people to join who don't want to.

If the Senate does not impeach him (he has not been yet) then the Democrats will initiate actions against the senators

For what?
For not doing what they want. Such thing is a crime. Trump won, they did not want that so he’s being impeached for that “crime”

Trump HAS BEEN IMPEACHED! Don't pretend, or echo, what others tell you to believe. Trump has won nothing, he is the third president in centuries to be impeached, and may if the Senate takes the oath of office yesterday they promised to do, he will be the first president of the U. S. removed from office, and I suspect (and hope) is indicted for other crimes.

Lets impeach Trump. If he indeed violated laws. Which brings to mind Democrats creating "sanctuary cities" without the democratic consent of the people, lets look into that too. All things being equal.

With the Chief justice concurring on the house Ds being a pack of halfwits I don't see ant blow back

I swear sometimes it's like they are 2 year olds
Impeachment is a political endeavor
Not a legal one
The Democrats act political
Republicans act politics
Its politics

No. Articles of impeachment, asking for Impeachment, have been drafted and sent to the Senate for confirmation or denial. Your all in caps is a tantrum but being charged is not being guilty.

Most Russians are loyal to Mother Russia.
Ukrainians sell themselves out to the highest bidder.
They've worked at one time in history for Russian Czars; and at another time for Adolph Hitler.
Last time I checked, Ukrainians are sort of split right now.

To say that the Ukrainians sell themselves out to the highest bidder is vile and disgusting.

They did not "work for" Russia. It was the Soviet Ukraine in 1932 to 1933 there was a man-made famine which caused about 3.5 MILLION deaths. They were not working for Russia.

After that, Nazi Germany occupied the country where they were, in part, welcomed. Many Ukrainians collaborated with the Nazis, as if they had a choice.

Maybe it's just me but I don't view this as collaboration.

If the senate shuts this down :crybaby:
If they exercise their right to vote to dismiss :crybaby:
If dems don't get to break the rules and call witnesses :crybaby:
If repubs subpoena both bidens :crybaby:
If Trump wins a second term :boo_hoo14:

That's the Democrats you're speaking of. Why do you think they became the anti-white party? They are doing it because once the white majority is gone, they can have a single-party government forever. Just look how other groups vote.
I don't see anything about white bread run of the mill rural dumbasses that is worth preserving if it means we have to forfeit fair elections and government accountability.

Neither does the rest of your ilk. That's why they became the anti-white party.
President Johnson said something to the effect that if you tell the dumbest least educated white shithead that he is better than the best educated, hardest working black man then he will let you pick his pocket forever. That's the essence of your "pro-white" party.

If what I say actually happens, and the Democrat party takes total control of the country indefinitely, that will start the end of the great experiment. It will quickly go to Socialist, and eventually Communist. It's why they have to be stopped.

The Communists said many years ago they would take over this country; but not with one bullet fired. They will takeover peacefully from within.
The republican party will be fine if they reinvent themselves into something that serves the people better. There is a definite place in American politics for conservatism, it's just kind of sick with plutocracy and racism right now.

Which are both lies of course. The Republicans just don't believe in one small group paying for the entire country, especially when that group are the major job providers for the rest of us, the main foundation of our economy, and the people who donate to charitable causes.

The problem is the Democrats hate wealthy people unless they are politicians or one of their own. Remember, if you destroy the wealthy, you destroy our entire country. Racism? Yeah, we've been hearing about it for forty years now.
