CDZ If Donald J. Trump and Vladimir Putin Were in Power in October, 1962

We'd be posting in Cyrillic characters, for starters....
Highly doubtful. I think the same deal would have been brokered. Their missiles in Cuba for ours in Turkey.

How would the Cuban Missile Crisis have turned out?

If it had been Trump and Putin instead, I think there would have been nuclear missiles flying around, and we might not be as advanced as we currently are.

But, don't worry, you might still get a chance to see how Trump would handle a Cuban Missile Crisis situation.

But if we do, I fear for the country and the world.

We are lucky it turned out the way it did. Remember, JFK turned chicken when East Germany built the Berlin Wall in 1962. The Soviet Union did not build it...hence it was not a direct confrontation with them. Kennedy’s lack of response helped lead to the missile crisis.

If nuclear missiles fly around mankind is wiped from face of the earth.

Dunno about wiping out the whole of humanity, some pockets might survive. But, it will end up like the famous quote from Einstein..................

"I do not know with what weapons WWIII will be fought with, but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Unlike Khrushchev's correct assessment of JFK as a rank amateur, Putin would have sized up Trump as someone he couldn't bluff or bully. Trump may well have removed our missiles from Turkey, but only in return for Soviet concessions in Europe. The "Cuban Missile Crisis" was a complete scam to allow JFK to claim he wasn't a dilettante, just like his concocted hero story about PT 109.

Sometimes I read things that help me put other posts in perspective.

In military situations like that there is a chance for a lot of things to start a war. I wonder if we held the missile crisis ten times with the exact same crew if we wouldn't have ended up at war two of them.

Unlike the weak Kennedy Trump would have taken out the threat in Cuba and kicked Castro's butt.

Kennedy's weakness was the cause of the Cold War going on for another 30 years. He essentially gave the Soviets the red light to intervene in Central America, Africa and SE Asia.

Yuh huh. Perhaps you meant to say the "green" light but unfortunately we were already intervening in SE Asia and Africa since Eisenhower, and in Central America since McKinley.

Wonder what Putin has planned for retaliation?
He is not going to retaliate against the US.

He is bolstering Syrian defenses.

You sure about no retaliation? And, as far as bolstering Syria's air defenses, you do know that he's bolstering them against the possibility of another joint strike by US/French/English forces? He's giving them a better surface to air system to shoot down any missiles that may be shot into Syria. And, because Putin is close friends with Assad, you can bet it's not to defend Syria from Russian forces.

Russia warns of 'consequences' for US-led strike on Syria
  • Russia's ambassador to the U.S. warned there would be "consequences" for the strike on Syria, and that a "pre-designed scenario" was underway.
  • In ordering strikes on Syria, President Donald Trump called out both Iran and Russia for their support of Bashar Assad's government.

I guess it depends on your idea of what constitutes retaliation. I think the Russians aren't interested in escalating tensions.

I thought it was clear who Syria needs to defend itself from. Clearly the US is the aggressor.

If Trump lobs any more missiles into Syria, I'll bet you dollars to stale donuts that Putin is gonna do something militarily to the US.

Depends on the circumstances I would think. If he has to defend Russians I think he would.
If he has to defend Assad the chances go up.
If another pr stunt like the last effort, probably not.

I think if either Syrians OR Russians were attacked Putin would respond with military force. Why? Because Putin isn't the kind of person to make an empty threat, and his representatives have already said that if we attacked again, it would be met with force.

Trump is the one that makes empty threats. Remember the 3 carrier armada that was supposed to be off the coast of N. Korea?
