How to end the UAW strike

It’s much worse then most of us know or care to know.

Chris Hedges summarized our corporate overlords very well as follows…

"Silent Coup: How Corporations Overthrew Democracy"
The United States, like many industrialized countries, has undergone a corporate coup d’état in slow motion, cementing into place a system of control the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls inverted totalitarianism. Inverted totalitarianism retains the institutions, symbols, iconography, and language of the old capitalist democracy, but internally corporations have seized all the levers of power to accrue ever greater profits and political control. Claire Provost and Matt Kennard in their book “Silent Coup: How Corporations Overthrew Democracy,” chart the way the corporate coup d’état was orchestrated. It examines the use of an international legal system to control and plunder the resources in the developing world, including the overthrow of governments that challenge corporate dominance. The authors expose the nefarious alliance between Non-Profit organizations and corporations, one that prioritizes profit rather than justice. The document leading the weakening of labor laws and evisceration of worker’s protections and rights. To enforce this predatory behavior corporations have not only created, in essence, a global supreme court but raised and funded private mercenary militias to crush labor movements and intimidate and even murder activists. The subversion of democracy abroad is accompanied, the authors argue, by the subversion of democracy at home. The mechanisms of control pioneers to plunder the developing world are being used in the industrial world
I agree with much of what is said. What I don't agree with is the answer is socialism. Many, including Chris Hedges, feel that socialism is the answer. I feel the answer is a hybrid government and economy as almost all governments and economies are in today's world. Some government are much more socialist than others.

I’m not sure what the answer is, but I know our current condition is awful for the people.

We live in a failed state run by a rapacious corporate oligarchy.

Is there a real world government that does a better job? The more people to govern makes it more difficult to fairly govern..

I don’t know but I suspect there are governments that care about their people, rather than just the 1%.

Compare that with my son who will retire in 10 years at 52 and will have a $10,000 a month pension, stock options, 401k in a non-union job. Unreal!
Everyone I tell this story to wants to know who gives $120,000 a year pension after only working for 30 years?

I love it how they want it to be an assumed given that our government is corrupt and doesn't care about us.

Probably because it's obvious the GOP is.

Same way my buddy got very angry when I told him yes, I assume Biden is an honest man. He said "oh come on do you fucking really believe that?"!!!!

But this coming from a guy who insisted Trump was innocent. Now I'm starting to see Republicans don't believe Trump is innocent. They just believe Biden is equally as guilty. Of what they aren't sure. But they are sure of it.

Do you see how similar duopoly people are?

Again, 401k, stock options and pension, the combination works well
Be a business owner and see what pensions cost you.
401ks work better in the 21st century. They are portable for the worker and a fixed cost for the employer.
Pension costs could put some businesses out of business.

I am just telling how my son is set up to make $10,000 after retirement, by using all those methods. The states seem to like pensions.

Here is a link to workers in the state of Oregon and their retirement benefits, one made $80,000 a year worked for 314 months and their retirement is $190,000 a year.

Unbelievable how generous pension benefits are for government employees. This while pensions have systematically been eliminated in the private sector.

I don't feel we are just the opposite side of the coin. I feel like one party, the Democratic party, is more serious about creating a strong middle class. I believe the Republican party has conned middle class people into believing their way is best. Deregulations, tax breaks to rich people, privatizing everything, outsourcing, allowing companies to outsource without penalty.

I believe one party is more in favor of corporations but I'm not saying Democrats are anti corporations. Just like Joe Biden, we stand with the Union workers. We know Republicans don't. Trump says he does but that's just talk.

No. The Ds and Rs are one on support of corporations and screwing workers. You’ll see this happen before your eyes as Dumb Old Joe throws the UAW under the bus.

Since the government is going to survive us all, they'll be around to actually pay the benefits, unlike a lot of private companies. You can take a job with Studebaker or Sears, and they could promise a pension if you work there for 40 years, but the company may be gone by the time you are ready to cash in.

The problem with government pensions is the tendency of politicians to borrow from the pension fund for foolishness, so that the taxpayers are on the hook instead of employee and employer contributions made at the time the services were performed.

I'm not anti corporation and Joe shouldn't be either. I'm fair. I'm willing to say the UAW is asking for too much. Those companies may close in years to come. The UAW president has some balls on him I'll give him that.

So don't be too pro labor. It may cost us all those manufacturing jobs. The raise workers are asking for will be their excuse why they raise prices on cars too. Because corporations only care about profits.

Moon Bat, I have a great idea.

You are bent out of shape that the Big Three's CEOs are paid too much money.

You are livid that Honda and Toyota in the US don't pay their workers what you think they should be earning

You also know that Honda and Toyota generally build better vehicles than the Big Three.

So here is the idea.

Why don't you buy a Honda or Toyota made in a Right to Work State?

Then you can go to the plant where your vehicle is made at shift change and stand there and hand out money to the workers as they leave.

That way you get a better vehicle, a lower paid CEO and you can relieve your stupid Socialist guilt that you have that you aren't giving the workers the money they deserve for the vehicle you bought.

Win-win, right?
Stupid-Stupid
